Spurs ready to make £8m bid for ‘Next Thierry Henry’!

Apparently the north London club’s scouting network have earmarked a move for this impressive speedy striker in January, and apparently he is tipped to be the next Thierry Henry, but we have heard that one before haven’t we?!

TOTTENHAM have sent scouts to check on Rennes’ £8million-rated striker Jimmy Briand.
A delegation from Spurs saw the 23-year-old score in a 1-1 draw against Le Havre two weeks ago and plan to watch him again before January.
Briand has two years left on his contract and his club value him at £8m, having already turning down a £6m bid from Paris Saint Germain in the summer.
The asking price could be reduced to £7m as Rennes are thought to have pushed the figure up because they were so reluctant to sell to another French club.
Briand was watched closely by Portsmouth towards the end of last season and has recently been called up to the full France squad by Raymond Domenech.
He can also operate on the left wing and his style has been compared to Thierry Henry.
He is believed to be the fastest player in the French league after having his 100 metre sprint time clocked at just over 10 seconds. (News of the World)

The 23-year-old nippy striker may not have the same strike rate as the esteemed former Arsenal legend that he is often compared to, but then Henry didn’t have such a great goals-to-games ratio before he moved to north London either. One thing does seem clear and that is that something is not currently working at White Hart Lane. However it is surely only a matter of time before the new signings gel and those who have been at the club longer will start performing consistently. Do Spurs fans think a striker is needed or should they be looking to improve other areas of the squad first?
