Oh no, could this £18m Liverpool nightmare be starting all over again!
by Mr Comfort on October 2nd, 2008News from Villa Park may well lead to Liverpool fans going completely insane as it could well suggest that the very long-running saga involving a certain Aston Villa man may well kick off all over again in the summer!

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner fears Aston Villa must finish in the top four this term to afford Gareth Barry’s wage demands.
England ace Barry, 27, has a strong bargaining hand as he will have only one year left on his £47,000-a-week contract next summer. Barry could have earned a basic £80,000-a-week at Anfield.
But Villa’s money men insist they can’t meet Barry’s demands unless they are in the Champions League. (Daily Mirror)
If this is indeed true and that only a top four finish will suffice in order for the Midlands club to pay Gareth Barry’s wage demands, then could this well open the door for yet another bid from his well-known admirer Rafa Benitez? No offence to Aston Villa, but I don’t see them cracking the top four this season.
Even though Martin O’Neill has been steadily improving the team year-on-year, they may not be ready for the big step just yet. Do Liverpool fans hope that their Spanish boss steers clear of the England international or do they hope he goes in for yet another bid?

Barry is a great player, but he’s not worth more than £12m. That comes down to ages plus playing every game at the top level. At Villa, oe goal every 4 games which was a belter and he’s seen as a hero.
At LIverpool he’s seen as a lazy git with a big ego that needs a good shoeing.
I think he’d be a great signing but no-where the figures the press where on about.

we dont need barry. the team looks really well balanced in the centre at the moment with alonso playing brilliantly and obviously gerrard and mascherano reliable as ever. im sure he wouldnt play on the left, because we have riera and babel so i dont see why we need him. i think we should get young players for now and the future, these should be gareth bale, marko marin, toni kroos, rafinha, and gourcuff. these are really promising talents. for me we should have signed quaresma or giovani dos santos (who was a real bargain) but the other above players are quality and we should get them all, while getting rid of the likes of pennant, benayoun, aurelio, degen, dossena (i wish)

The day Liverpool go scraping the barrel for the likes of the over-slow, overweight Gareth Barry is a dark day indeed. I’m for promoting English players, very much so, but the thought that Liverpool were prepared to punt Alonso to get Barry still baffles me to this day.
Caoimhin De Barry - October 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 am
No,
pls consider the following first.
Sell some of the deadwood like,
Pennant - 5 mill ( or 18 mill to the villa)
Lucas - 5 mill
Sami - 2 to 3 mill
Yossi - 6 mill
Aurellio - 6 mill
and instead of buying Barry use the money along with the money from the above sales to buy David Villa.
Keep Alonso,
End of story.

all we need is a right back and a left back and i would be verry happy. daniel alves and gareth bale would be perfect!

Gareth Barry will not be going to the Bindippers, they cannot afford him.

We are always being linked with Tom,Dick and Barry, The only Gareth I would like to see at the club is Gareth Bale…..Steven - October 2nd, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Let his contract run out and get him for free. Gareth Barry is not a bad player. He is captain at Villa. So he does posses certain Quality. But he is not 18 millions midfielder. He still can deliver the goods. Theres a few years left in him.

Tommy Livebird - October 5th, 2008 at 8:59 am……… Nice one mate….I am all for getting him for free….,,Can’t see him fitting into a 4-4-2 unless as back up, maybe in a 4-5-1, but we still need to be one or two class players a year and not the average joes Rafa likes to buy
