David Moyes, Everton manager, has just presided over what is probably the most rotten beginning to the season since he became gaffer, but should the ginger Scot be given the boot? Everton’s loss to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby is now sandwiched between two cup losses; being dumped out of the Carling Cup and yesterday sent packing from the UEFA Cup too.

A rancid summer made way for a ropey autumn for Everton, and a lot of fingers have to be pointed at David Moyes. Although it is still unclear quite what happened during the summer with Everton’s transfer booty, and even though the Kirkby debacle wasn’t his fault in the slightest, many Evertonians are getting frustrated about what has been an excruciatingly sluggish campaign and a lot of the blame has to rest with Moyes.

Some of the biggest gripes about the Moyesiah are that he blew his entire transfer load on Marouane Fellaini – a man who glowed against Liverpool for Standard Liege but has been anonymous for Everton. Also that he sold Lee Carsley, the keystone sitting in front of the Everton back four, and that he is tactically brittle, especially in Europe. Yesterday’s defeat isn’t going to strengthen the case of those that support him and it may solidify the feelings of many that Moyes has to go….
