Manchester City manager claims Liverpool are genuine title contenders: What do YOU think?
by offsidetrap on October 4th, 2008 19 commentsAfter getting brushed aside by Chelsea in their first showdown against a big four side, Man City manager Mark Hughes has decided to try a different tactic this time around, and that includes showering his next big four opponent with loads of praise for their recent play. He believes that Liverpool are genuine title contenders that will be vying for the title until the last day of the season. That should boost Liverpool’s ego a bit!
“Liverpool have been a top four side for a number of years now. They have a huge history of winning trophies,” he said. “I sense that this season they will have a real go at trying to win the Premier League.
“Liverpool have had a great start. They look confident, strong and assured. They will run the top teams very close. It is a big test for us as they are playing exceptionally well at the moment.

Liverpool really have been top of the class in the Premier League to this point. It still remains to be seen how they handle mid-level clubs in the future (their one weakness), but if the win last week at Goodison was any indication of their quality for the rest of the year, Liverpool supporters could be in for a successful season.
What do Liverpool supporters think? Is Hughes correct in tabbing your club as genuine title contenders this season?

If the Reds are still strongly in contention by december (likely) and we get some new owners at Anfield (50/50) then I believe we will mount a magnificent title run YNWA.
Ronaldo will get injured again, mancs, you’ll be shitt out of luck come april.

Liverpool start this season well. But there is lots of football to be play yet. Liverpool must perform week in week out like a champion. If they want to win this year title. Beat the tops team at home and away games. Dont get draws against mid table team. Liverpool must play like winner. Liverpool need to concentrate match by match. Score lots of goals, defence hard, injury free and collect three points. Result will follow.

kermit – October 5th, 2008 at 2:31 am ……… “should ve bought schweinsteiger for the right in the summer”…You know it Kermit, You know it……..According to the NOTW Benitez wants to swop Pennant for wigans Antonio Valencia…. an average winger for another….Why doesn’t he just take what ever he can for Pennant and save that plus the wages saved and buy someone for real class in the summer….We have Babel and Elzhar and even if Kuyt goes (I for one would like him to stay as a back up striker) use the money for him and Pennant plus wages saved and bid for Podolski and Schweinsteiger…….This is the sought of thing that really pisses me off about Rafa Benitez, The way he waste the clubs money

i read about valencia and thought oh no
qhat a waste of time
yeah id have bought podolski and schweinsteiger for weither side of torres with gerrard in behind and masch and alonso behind
thats what i was hoping for all summer
i saw pod and schwein play this sytem for germany and they looked potent
yeah real class
is antonio valencia real class
he looks weak and underfed in my opinion not the type of class thats needed
i think it would be a pooor buy that i d personally be disgusted with
i think even pennant is better than val;encia
val;encia has pooor close control also
at ;least pennant has reasonable cpontrol of the ball even if he does n t know where he is going with it half the time

all we need to do is keep playing the way we are with no fancy tactics just keep plugging away and dont listen to the shit house media or any of the hype that will ensue after a few more wins or good results and just to be in the mix after christmas will be nice and if we can do that then you give yourself a chance its only at that point we will know if we are good enough.
YNWA

ps i love all the other teams saying how we are not good enough to win the league i hope they carry on as we keep getting result after result
2D - October 5th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
i think that we (liverpool) will have a really good season, i honestly believe that we’ll get some silverware, but i can’t see anyone pipping chelski this year for the title. we’ll just have to wait and see, arsenal are too inconsistent and man u are a shell of the team they where last season, that doesn’t mean though that they aren’t dangerous, a cornered dog bites, and that team of buldogs bite hard
mark - October 6th, 2008 at 4:11 am
lets not get carried away sure liverpool have made a great start, the best i can remember in ages, but lets not forget what happened to arsenal, they were flying for the 1st half of the season, but towards the end fell apart, let’s not make any stupid comments that we’ll all regret come may, but so far so good!!
