Liverpool close in on £10m NEW ZIDANE!
by Mr Comfort on October 6th, 2008According to this report, Rafa looks very keen on signing one of the hottest youngsters around; he has been dubbed the ‘next Zidane’ which can of course be something of poisoned chalice but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from going head-to-head with Chelsea for the teenager!

According to various reports in France, both Chelsea and Liverpool have representatives in Grenoble watching the 18 year-old French-Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli, who is already being dubbed the new Zinedine Zidane.
It has been reported that Rafael Benitez has been keeping tabs on the youngsters progress for the last year, and now the Daily Mirror has reported that Chelsea also have representatives in France making enquiries.
Feghouli himself has been asked what he thought of these reports and he said simply: “I have been aware of the interest but I try not to think about it. My head is with Grenoble.”
With the youngster’s prodigious talent, there will be a lot of interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, but Liverpool and Chelsea are trying to steal a march on their rivals and Atletico Madrid have also expressed a strong interest. (footylatest.com)
£10m-rated Feghouli has helped his newly-promoted Grenoble to a good start in their first season in the top tier of French football, and that is sure to get the youngster even more attention. The 18-year-old is said to be on the verge of a place in the French Under-21 side. The teenager could well be a star of the future, and Rafa has seemingly been keen on increasing the amount of youthful talent in his squad. A move for Sofiane could well be a clever one, expect the rumours to persist and the Anfield side to continue scouting the midfielder. Can Liverpool fans see Benitez putting in a bid for this kid?

he is good and will be class, but 10 million for a teenager? i dont think so
Hans - October 6th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
10 Million, why not? If he turns out to really be the next Zidane then it will be a bargain. Cristiano Rolnaldo could have been a liverpool player for 4million, we only wanted to pay 2 million. One season after manu payed 12 million for him and what is he worth now? sometimes it is worth the risk
Ben Born - October 6th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Its always a massive risk to sign a player being touted as ‘the next (insert superstar name here). Remember the last new Zidane we signed, Anthony Le Tallec and the one before that, Bruno Cheyrou. If the kid is indeed as talented as they say he is, I wish idiotic journalists would stop placing all the expectations in the world on such young shoulders. Not too sure if we could really justify 10m on an unproven youngster, but we’ll see what happens here I guess.

if i could turn back the time i will buy ronaldo so that man u wont get him. then stick ronaldon into the reserve to rot.ronaldo is nvr suitable to play for LFC, he is a diver and have no respect for the game whatsoever.

10m for a teenager is a bit much, but then again in football it’s worth taking a gamble on young players, just ask arsenal and united with walcott, fabregas, ronaldo, rooney. the list goes on, all we need to do is tell mr parry
Ricardo-Liverpool - October 7th, 2008 at 3:16 am
Bring Feghouli and get rid of Lucas. Lucas seems too slow for the english game.

What they have cloned him??!!!!
Donavan Ried - October 7th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Really, why buy this kid?,….We are never going to play him…so waste of money yet again
Uncle Necky - October 7th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Donovan, was that a veiled dig at Rafa for the lack of opportunity young players get at Anfield?
“We are never going to play him so waste of money yet again”
Do you feel the same way about the youth policy at Man Utd and Chelsea because no youngsters come through there either?
Oh but what about arsenal? Loads of youngsters just no trophies
Youngsters do get a chance under rafa when they are good enough, i.e Agger, Babel. El Zhar has had a few run outs too. They need to be good enough though, regardless of age.
As for this new Zidane, let someone else have him.

The next this the next that, yes he is good, but is good really good or do we want better than good, for good sake we need player for now, not future and maybe he will not work out like other Zinadane Zidane we sign up a few years ago, who was not good, good sometimes is good, but good is for position 5-20, we want excellent for position 1-4, we want to be number 1 not number anything else thaat may be good, but not good for number 1
Dave - October 7th, 2008 at 11:53 am
I remember when Adel Tarbbat was branded as the new zidane, currently residing in the tottenham reserve squad. Ahhh the joys of wasting money
Donavan Ried - October 7th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Uncle Necky - October 7th, 2008 at 11:15 am ……No it was not a veiled digs at Rafa for the lack of opportunity young players get at Anfield…. Just stating a fact…..Was not aware Agger and Babel were anything but first team players……Would like to see Rafa’s policy the same as Wengers here…And give the League cup to the Youths…. As for “As for this new Zidane, let someone else have him”…I’m with you on that one

Zidane was class, I don’t think we’ll ever see another player like him. As for this guy, who knows ?? 10 million seems a lot of money, especially in the current financial climate.
elninoT9 - October 8th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
