All the talk at Eastlands has revolved around huge big name purchases, but this source today suggests that Mark Hughes is planning a more subtle foray into the transfer market and one that is very clever indeed!

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has identified Chelsea full back Wayne Bridge as a possible January transfer target as he looks to strengthen with established Premier League experience.
In the wake of City’s takeover by investors from the oil rich state of Abu Dhabi the club were linked with a host of big names in what appeared to be a fantasy football selection process made real by the new owner’s vast wealth.
However, after the initial furore has calmed down Hughes has impressed upon his new bosses the need to build a strong base within City’s squad with a premium placed on experience of the English game over box office appeal.
The names of David Villa, Fernando Torres and even Cristiano Ronaldo were raised after the extent of funds available to Hughes became clear, though Hughes’ first signing could well be the relatively modest move for £6 million-rated England international Bridge, who acts as Ashley Cole’s understudy at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Bridge is a top quality full-back who is as good as Ashley Cole. The former Southampton man is a model of consistency, and more than likely to be keen on a move to the cash-rich side rather than continuing to play second fiddle at Chelsea. City boss Hughes will need to be very intelligent when it comes to making moves in the transfer market, knowing that everyone will be out to cash in on the huge sums of money said to be available for additions.
Bridge would represent a very wise investment and a pretty cheap one at £6m in my view. Do Manchester City fans hope to see Wayne bombing down the flanks in January?
