Man Utd midfielders Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have signed contract extensions until June 2010 and June 2012 respectively.
Veteran Scholes is currently sidelined with a medial knee ligament damage but has seen his immediate future at Old Trafford secured along with squad man Fletcher.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club’s website: “Paul is proof that if you look after yourself you can carry on playing and be rewarded at a club of this size. He’s 34 years old and he’s been here since he was 14 and that tells you the desire and the ability he has to stay at the top.

“Darren is in the same vein as Ryan (Giggs), Paul and Wes (Brown) in that he is a long serving member of the team.

“His consistency and level-headed approach is a great attribute and we are all delighted that they have signed new contracts.” (clubcall.co.uk)

Sir Alex once again has shown again how to reward loyalty and consistency. Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have both shown enough to be rewarded with new deals. Darren Fletcher has been in fine form this season, and has gone a long way to proving his doubters wrong yet again. Prior to Paul Scholes injury, the veteran former-England international was showing that he still had a season or two in his legs. Both players epitomise the qualities that Ferguson looks for in his players, determination and adaptability. Do Manchester United fans think that they can make it three Premier League titles on the trot this season?
