Liverpool legend Ian Rush knows what it takes to win the big “one.” In his most recent column in the Liverpool Echo, Rush commented on a rare stat that should have Liverpool supporters licking their chops every time Fernando Torres scores a goal.
Some nice memories stirred for me this week when someone mentioned Liverpool are yet to lose a league game in which Fernando Torres has scored.
In the 21 Premier League games he has scored in, the Reds have either won or drawn.
I had a similar record when I was at Anfield and it ended up lasting for seven years so I know just how much of a positive impact such a run can have on the whole team.
The big thing for us was that every one of the players was given a psychological boost when I scored because we all felt that we couldn’t lose after that. (Liverpool Echo)
Rush is right. There seems to sort of a psychological boost that occurs when Torres bags a goal. Liverpool seem to understand that with their star striker in form, they have all the firepower they need to win any match.
Do Liverpool supporters feel the same way when they see Torres scoring goals?
