Manchester United ‘want £18million midfielder’: A ‘friend’ reveals all!

Posted by

It’s quite handy for tabloid rags that there are so many former Manchester United players who are now Premier League managers. Paul Ince has joined Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce in the English top flight, which makes it very easy for the media to link players from their particular teams with a move to the Red Devils.

Manchester City are sadly out of bounds for imaginative journalists, although now they’ve had enough of baiting Tottenham for the past couple of days, there’s always ‘little Wigan’ for Sir Alex Ferguson to loot. Would you believe that The Sun are trying to have their readers believe that the only reason why Manchester United haven’t yet pinched Wilson Palacios from Wigan, is because of the alleged rapport between the two managers. Or could it be simply because there’s not an ounce of interest in the Latics midfielder?

SunSport understands the champions could nab the midfielder as early as January, although the deal is more likely to happen at the end of the season.

We told you exclusively that United wanted Palacios, 24, last summer — but Latics boss Steve Bruce was desperate to keep him for one more year.

A close pal of Palacios said: “You know the rapport between Steve Bruce and Alex Ferguson. They’re very close.

“United have been following Wilson closely for some time. Steve benefited from his rapport with Sir Alex and was able to keep Wilson for six months or a year more.

“Nothing is signed but there’s a moral agreement. Wigan have set the bar high, £18m. It’s possible it could be done in January.”

One really has to suspend disbelief to imagine that Sir Alex Ferguson would put a signing on hold because he plays for a club managed by a former Red Devil! Once again, this rag of rags employs the technique of inventing an imaginary friend (something most of us grew out of by the age of 5) to explain the current state of play. Can any Manchester United or Wigan supporters actually believe that this rumour is true?
