Mentalist Everton fans call for Moyes’ resignation…Anyone agree?
by Dexter on October 9th, 2008As loopy ideas go, this is a top one. Sacking the manager only a handful of games into the season is one of the few things guaranteed to destabilise a club still further and send it reeling into the abyss. If the manager in question has guided your once-proud team of paupers to fifth place, and even the Champions League spots, then surely he should be given some leeway. Many feel this way, but not so this ingrate of a Toffees fan, who blasted David Moyes on Everton fan site Toffeeweb.
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
Tony Marsh, clearly a ridiculously negative Evertonian, fired a shotgun spray of abuse at those involved in Everton - and shockingly many of their fans on the site agreed….
In his bitter vitriol-laced piece, Marsh laid out some harsh abuse saying amongst other nasty nuggets:
“Pack Tony Hibbert off to Division 1 where he belongs and maybe we can build from there…”
“Saha is finished at this level and has been for years now.”
“We already have ADVM, Neville, Baines and Osman to drag along — we don’t need any more.”
“As far as I am concerned, David Moyes is now the Bic Razor of football mangers. It all looks good from a distance, nicely packaged… but once you open the wrapper, all you get is a dull lifeless experience that cuts you to ribbons once you use it.”
“Moyes has allowed the squad to disintergrate into a team of passionless wasters.”
Harsh indeed from the Toffeeweb contributor, especially for a gaffer lauded by Martin Samuel as the best pound-for-pound manager in the league. What do other Everton fans think? Do you really want to see Moyes given the boot, and who the heck would you get in as a replacement?
Anyone in a Krakatoan funk of molten fury over this article? Why not discuss it on the COS Forum?!….

Half of the people on toffeeweb are conspiracy theorist, miserable, doom and gloom idiots.
Any right minded evertonian wants this situation tied up. Moyes has done a fantastic job over the last 5 years.

I couldn’t agree more. We don’t have as much money as other clubs but Moyes has rarely spent it wisely. He’s ok at finding bargains in the lower divisions but when he has to spend big and bring in a world-class player he fails: Beattie, Johnson, Kroldrup, Fellaini (if he doesn’t improve fast).
What most people overlook in this whole debate is how he persists in playing people wildly out of position and only seems to notice the error of his ways about ten games after everyone else. Yobo played a load of games at right back with disastrous results a few years ago; the start of this season wasn’t the first time he played established centre-half Phil Jagielka in midfield. Don’t even get me started on Phil Neville, surely one of the worst midfielders in the Premiership, whose sole contribution seems to be to continually give the ball away (although he does that when he plays at right back as well).
The only thing that would stop me from sacking Moyes is the worry about who we might get instead, although on his current showing it would be hard to do much worse.

Results speak for themselves, Moyes can only take everton so far. I can’t believe that a top class manager would allow a club to go back so far over the summer. This is not the first time either. Everton need money and someone who has won tropies. Moyes dragged us up from the bottom but he will never take us to the top.

That’s Toffeeweb for you - their views are about as likely to move as a Frenchman who lives next to a Brothel. Anyone who dares question the negative attitude at Toffeeweb is subjected to an almost vitriolic barrage of Emails from the Editor. Funnily enough this editor although purporting to be an Everton fan never actually goes to a game - sitting instead in his E Tower critisising all and sundry who don’t conform. Personally I’d rather surf Blue Kipper - great bunch of lads

I personally choose to read a variety of websites as it’s the only way to get a truly reflective view of the club and the fan’s thoughts.
Toffeeweb is by far the most informative and it’s contributors vary from the wildly negative to the bizarrely optimistic. Any regular visitor will know that I refer to Marsh and Doddy respectively.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that these are the only views on there though. The majority write intelligent considered articles that are thought provoking and the format allows responses to these which create great debate amongst fans.
There is an unsaid feeling on the site that welcomes criticism of views and rarely results in name calling and vitriol as I have experienced on other sites.
I have always found Michael Kenwrick to be an excellent editor and I believe he manages the mail threads and articles very well, commenting occasionally (albeit sometimes sarcastically!), and delivering the most up-to-date must for any Evertonian. Don’t underestimate the time and passion required to keep something like this going!
I sit somewhere in the middle with Moyes. I recognise all he has done for the club and applaud him for that. He needs to move onto the next level now although I understand that he has been hampered by the finances available. I have no problem with differing perspectives and enjoy both Tony Marsh and Richard Dodd’s opposing views.
Let’s not elevate them to celebrity status though. This is an article more about Tony Marsh than David Moyes!

i do believe hibeert and neville need to be playing somewhere else, baines will come on and i think there could be a good link between him and pienner, why moyes refuses to use anichebe and vaughan more to partner the yak is beyond me. i like moyes and he’s done fairly well considering the cash that’s been available to him, his and evrtons problem are the dithering over signing new player, they seem to drag on for months and nothing is straight forward, maybe the talk of a take over will happen and money available, we need at least 6 more good players at the club to succeed

I’m a red but I think you’d be stupid to get rid of him. He finished fifth a couple of times, fourth once. Face it, you are never going to win the league, we’ll not in the next 20 years anyway. Fifth is a good result for Everton and I don’t mean to be patronising, that’s just the way it is.
I actually think you’ll be lucky to keep him.
Rudi - October 9th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
‘well’ not ‘we’ll’.
EVERTON - October 9th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
i actually think that moyes is a superb manager for us…he had bought us some european experiences…some cup experience…he had done well.i actually think that fellaini is a good buy…he is 20 and already looked intimidating at midfield…maybe still not the 15 mil mark but not bad a signing. but there is one thing that bothers me is vaughn and anichebe should get 1st start by now, they are good strikers dy, can score goals, can assist dy. So,why saha??? i heard bout owen and vagner love in the january…so what bout them? so,i suggest loan them to a championship team to get some experience…

Instead of writing a load of ill-informed, negative nonsense, some of these so called fans should actually try going to a game. Support is a dynamic verb for me and therefore it’s something you actually have to do in order to consider yourself a fan. I have a season ticket. I sit amongst lots of others with season tickets. I can honestly say I don’t think these ultra-negative views are reflected in the ground. Yes, some players aren’t as good or as consistent as others, but most of these naff opinions are formed from 5 minutes of MOTD or half an hour of Football First. Yes, people get frustrated with bad results or performances. I don’t understand why he plays Neville in midfield and it frustrates me, but there isn’t a manager out there who make the ‘right’ decisions all the time. Again, every manager has bad transfer dealings. To criticise Moyes in this area is ridiculous. Who do these people want? I remember during a previous bad run of form under Moyes, people were calling for him to be replaced with Newell!! A real pet hate of mine is the stick Tony Hibbert gets. He’s a cracking little defender, not the best going forward, but always gives 110%. I’ve sat through games when he’s been criticsied for continually lumping the ball forward 50 yards. And why did he do that? Because Arteta or Cahill or another favourite had gone missing and offered him no option. Support your team. Support your manager. Or just go somewhere else.

What A Div. We Dont Need Supporters Like him anyway so he should be the one to go an support someone else. What a load of crap. :@
