Chelsea player misses out for England: Why is anyone bothered?
by stresster on October 10th, 2008If Kazakhstan were an English club side, they might be a Leyton Orient, or maybe even a Gillingham. Therefore, does it really matter whether Lampard and Gerrard are playing together, or if Fabio Capello wants to give Shaun Wright-Phillips a match instead of Theo Walcott? Even if England had twenty players out injured, this should still be a walk in the park for whichever team the Italian decides to play.
Oh boo hoo hoo. According to Setanta, John Terry is going to be missing for Saturday’s match, do you think there’s any way that it can be postponed so the Chelsea defender can play at a later stage? After all, how can England cope against these European giants without their captain fantastic? Who else is going to kick the ball three times in the match and go up for the several corners that the home team are likely to have?
The Chelsea defender has been struggling with a back problem and was the only absentee when Fabio Capello put his players through their paces at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Friday morning.
Terry played only a limited part in training on Wednesday before missing out entirely on Thursday and now looks certain to miss out on the game at Wembley.
His absence opens the door for one of Matthew Upson, Joleon Lescott or Wes Brown to play alongside Rio Ferdinand, who will captain the side if Terry does miss out.
While there might be cause for concern if England were playing Germany or Brazil, does anyone realy give two hoots as to whether Terry is going to be fit or not? After all, if England can’t beat Kazakhstan and Belarus without their captain, they don’t deserve to be going to the World Cup. Can we please stop this up-to-the-minute concern?

I think your last paragraph sums it up really. We’re only just good enough to get into the world cup but believe we deserve an automatic place. The problem is too much self belief and Terry is the kind of vocal player that can snap lethargy out of the team. We’ve all seen Leyton Orient type teams beating premiership teams in cup competitions so there’s no way this is a walk in the park.
