Tottenham’s SLOW start or Hull’s FANTASTIC run: Which is the bigger shocker so far?
by offsidetrap on October 10th, 2008Who would have thought it was possible at the beginning of the year that the Premier League season would be shaping up like this! Going into the international weekend, Tottenham sit at rock bottom in the league, winless and facing a ruthless group of supporters who were expecting success with their summer buys.
For Hull, the season has been more than a ‘dreamland’ as manager Phil Brown put it recently. 14 points to their name and sitting in third place, Hull City are now a force to be reckoned with. You don’t gain those type of credentials without big wins, and none was bigger than a recent one at the Emirates against Arsenal.
But which club has been the bigger shocker so far? Is it Spurs’ early season collapse, or would you choose Hull’s stunning start? Let us know in the comment box below.

As the Spurs have started their seasons like this for the many years now, I think its Hull who are the major surprise of the season so far. Although we are only at the beginning of this adventure, there’s a maturity about some of Hull’s performances. As many had predicted a season of limited success along similar lines as Derby, its so pleasing to see Hull surpassing their points total after only 7 matches and proving to all those lower league clubs that it can be done.

After all the summer spending and the hype which was given for spurs that they’ll break into the top 4, the start they have made to the campaign is shocking. the biggest mistake was that before they could find a replacement for keane and berby, both were sold.. now they have bent and pavlychenko, who according to me are similar type of players.. not the great goal scoring ones.

hull is easily the bigger suprise, spurs always start off slow plus most of their goals from last year r know at man u nd liverpool. nobody would have thought hull would be sitting in third at this point in the season

come on, ball possession for the spurs-hull match was 65%/35% for spurs, so as as jason said, it’s a surprise…i don’t think cramming 11 players close the goalpost said much for Hull City. They will struggle to remain in EPL. Their turn will come too, as Spurs’ will very soon when they start rising…..

Ball possession counts for nothing and as for Hull’s style of football, they still created several scoring opportunities, but then who couldn’t against such a weak and disorganised defence, and the goal that won the game for Hull was worth the ticket price alone. Jean - Marc you are in for a long arduous season and long may you continue to languish in the lower reaches of the premier league

So James, they kept counter attacking with 11 men around their own posts, sour grapes! It is the fact that they don’t play the type of football people expect and your blinkered eyes saw, that has won them many new fans around the world.
