“It’s nice and relaxing away from Tottenham” claims Croatian international

While some footballers (Jamie Carragher included) regard the international break as an inconvenience, getting in the way of exciting Premier League fixtures, others take a different view. Especially if their club side is struggling at the foot of the table and is without a league win since the start of the season!

It’s clear that for Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric, the matches against Ukraine and Andorra couldn’t come around quickly enough. Both players arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer and, while they are both talented players who could go on to become Spurs heroes, they have been part of a side who have looked all at sea so far this season. Setanta reports that the ex-Manchester City defender is enjoying the atmosphere away from North London!

“Luka and I will prove ourselves under any circumstances,” he said in the Daily Telegraph. “We all need to get over our start – we haven’t lost self confidence.

“People always talk about replacing coaches after a few losses, but I don’t think so.

“We all know the situation is not good. It’s much better and more relaxing when we get together in national team because the atmosphere with Croatia is really great.”

Corluka was a consistent performer for City last season, and many were surprised to see him leave Eastlands, especially with their new-found wealth. Tottenham fans will be hoping that next time he and Modric go off to play for Croatia, they will be looking forward to returning to a team which is winning matches, rather than contemplating a visit to Stoke in a bid to move off the bottom of the table.
