Ask the player who used to control the game in the middle of the park for Arsenal every week, and he’s going for a player being criticised in the press at the moment.
Patrick Vieira was one of the finest players to grace the Premier League, helping Arsenal win several pieces of silverware. While the Frenchman didn’t score many goals, he was brilliant at breaking up the opposition play and turning defence into attack. Sky Sports reports that the Inter midfielder believes that the current Liverpool captain is pretty much the best midfielder on the planet, high praise indeed!
“The best midfielder I would say is Steven Gerrard. I really rate him as a player and as a man. I think he is still one of the best,” Vieira said at an event run by Ford’s Feel Football debate website www.feelfootball.com.
This will certainly please Stevie G, who is once again featuring in the headlines for a perceived international incompatibility with Frank Lampard. While that debate is certain to rumble on, Liverpool supporters wouldn’t swap the scouser for anyone, with their captain already an Anfield legend, despite having several seasons ahead of him yet.
