Over the summer, we saw some tremendously loyal footballers being approached by nasty clubs from abroad, and thankfully, their extreme love (!) of the club meant that they decided to stay. Emmanuel Adebayor remaining at Arsenal was never really in doubt, while it’s clear that this Manchester United star was just on a wind-up mission with Real Madrid, and that his love of the Red Devils has never been deeper.
Or that’s what Cristiano Ronaldo would have you believe anyway. In reality, it was touch and go as to whether he’d remain at Old Trafford, and many United fans are still reserving their judgement on the Portuguese forward. Especially with the latest rumours surrounding a potential move to the Bernabeu next summer. The Sun report that Ronnie is happy that the fans are cheering him again.
Ronaldo said: “In the game when I came back against Villarreal I wasn’t nervous but just a bit excited to see how the fans would react to me.
“Thank God things went well.
“This shows people have not forgotten all the good things we’ve done together and I’m very happy with that.”
Manchester United fans, are you happy to let bygones by bygones, or was it unacceptable for Ronaldo to flirt outrageously with the Spanish champions? It seems as though Sir Alex Ferguson had to have a good heart-to-heart with his most valuable player before the latter eventually committed himself to the Red Devils for another season, although have his chances of becoming a club legend disappeared, especially if he leaves next year?
