‘Manchester City will win the Premier League’ claims striker: Had he been drinking at the time?
by stresster on October 15th, 2008There’s nothing quite like an outlandish statement of intent from a player, even when his team have been beaten in their past two league matches. Against Wigan, they struggled to match the Latics in terms of honest endeavour, while they let a two-goal lead slip at home to Liverpool. At least this striker has the humility to therefore admit that the title might be out of reach this season!
Predictions about Manchester City are becoming a little tiring, especially when they’re made by the new owners at Eastlands, or one of their players, such as Jo. Perhaps they should just keep schtum and let their football do the talking until the good results materialise, although Sky Sports reports that the Brazilian is expecting big things from his time at the club, despite rumours that Mark Hughes is looking for someone else to bang in the goals.
“It’s an exciting time to be playing for the club - the signing of Robinho has made it clear to all of Europe this club will compete with the best,” Jo told ZOO magazine.
“Our new owners have made it obvious what they want to build here.
“We have to look at a Champions League place first and then go from there. This club will win the Premier League.
“The owners have already set that target, but I think to win it this season might be a little bit early.”
You don’t say! To win it over the next five seasons is a big old ask, especially with City still streets behind the Big Four, while it’s a bold claim to say that they’re currently the best of the rest. There seems to be few teams concerned by Manchester City’s new-found wealth, do supporters expect to find themselves in the Champions League spots at any point soon?

despite man city new money power,it will be at least 3 season to be a title contender…and maybe that time jo will leave the club for not being good enough anymore when “villa’ or ‘arguero’ come to man city…hahahahaha

Manchester City and win dont come into the same words very often! haha they’re a failure as a club and this new hype is no different they will be all crying again soon. All they have ever been is a team to make up the numbers is a viarity of different leagues lmao

oh dear tommy. shh, silly little boy.
“Predictions about Manchester City are becoming a little tiring”
what predictions? you mean that mad marketing man that was involved with the takeover? he is nothing to do with the club
and all i have heard from Hughes and the Board is the determination to slowly build the club and the team correctly. not heard any wild predictions from them, only idiot journos like you
of course, as a club we are building to win the premiership. that has got to be the ultimate aim with the investment of the new owners. but obviously still a long way to go as games this season have proven. outclassed by an outstanding chelsea side, and too naive against a liverpool side there for the taking.
but we are going in the right direction, young players like Jo are gonna take time to adapt and improve in the premier league and i trust the manager to find the right players to improve the team. and with the resources available it will make it a lot easier.
so yes, i’m feeling quite confident that CL qualification is not beyond our reach next season. but you wont find many city fans shouting from the rooftops how with our new players we are definately gonna finish top 4, you only have to look at spurs to see how silly you can look if you do that

“‘Manchester City will win the Premier League’ claims striker” trumpets your headline.
And yet your own quote, “I think to win it this season might be a little bit early.”, shows what he really said.
Had YOU been drinking at the time?

Everton, Maybe those players would come for the European football City can offer that you cant, or maybe just the money we can offer ……..that you cant. You shouldnt worry though there’s nobody at everton we would be interested in.
Thomas - October 15th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
M9 you maybe super rich but you’re not and never will be a bigger club than Everton. You have won nothing compared to Everton you dont even have 1/4 of Everton’s history. You will be out out Europe after the group stages, Everton have been in Europe many times recently. Also Everton will be getting taken over soon by a similar group of people that took over Manchester City so I wouldn’t be too sure on the money statemnet you made.
Also Everton have a different class of player to Manchester City. I know who is the better club and I’m a gunner Everton wins hands down why dont you blab your mouth off when you have actually finished in the top 6/5/4 in the Premier League?
m9 - October 16th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Thomas, I’m just reacting to someone having an unprovoked dig at my team. As for blabbing, I’ll leave that to12 year olds such as yourself, cheers.

For your information young one I am not 12 years of age. I just have noticed the arrogance of Manchester City fans of late when really your club has done nothing for English football, your club has made up the numbers in as I stated many different levels of English football. When your club acheive something then you have a right to knock a club that is one of the major clubs in England but untill then you are in a very large shadow of the clubs around you in the North West. I believe Everton actually quadruple your title over haul and have one spare? very laughable indeed that you are mocking them.
