Is Manchester United striker the best in the world? He’s up there, according to Liverpool player

Kazakhstan and Belarus are not particularly great international teams, although the latter had some nice passing movements on Wednesday night, one of which resulted in a goal. England have passed their latest tests with flying colours, with some truly world-class performances from some members of Fabio Capello’s team. One player in particular appears to have stood out.

Indeed, while everyone rates Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world, the Portugal captain and his team-mates were failing to score against ten-men Albania on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, his Manchester United team-mate was bagging another brace for England, with the ex-Everton striker earning rave reviews for his performance in Minsk. Setanta reports that Steven Gerrard rates Wayne Rooney as one of the best players in the world right now, do you agree?

Gerrard reserved special praise for his fellow Merseysider Rooney after setting the striker up for a wonderful goal.

“I think, when Wayne is in this kind of form, he’s up there with the best players in the world,” he stated.

“He’s a special talent with the understanding he’s got and his awareness is fantastic so it’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Indeed, it’s nice to see Wayne Rooney doing well again for England, rather than walking after referees and snarling at them. Do Manchester United fans think they have the best two players in the world at the moment, or is Roons still a bit hit-and-miss to be held in such high esteem?
