Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could have a huge injury problem on his hands after he was handed the worst news possible ahead of three critical matches in 10 days.
Liverpool fear they will be without Fernando Torres for a minimum 10 days because of a hamstring strain.
If final medical reports confirm the club’s worries, their top-scoring striker will miss Saturday’s Barclays Premier League match against Wigan, next week’s trip to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and the following Sunday’s crunch fixture at Chelsea.
Torres limped out of Spain’s World Cup qualifier with Belgium last night.
Initially the Spanish camp suggested he may miss just a few days, but Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is bracing himself for bad news.
He said today: ‘I am very disappointed about this, because it now looks like we will lose Fernando for three very important games. (Daily Mail)
I’m sure most Liverpool supporters were holding their collective breath when they heard the news that Fernando Torres had been nicked during international duty. For the club, this couldn’t come at a worse time. It now appears that Torres will miss his much-anticipated return to play Atletico Madrid, as well as a critical match against Chelsea that could be worth a potential three-point cushion in the league race. To top things off, word has also come out that Ryan Babel injured his ankle playing for Holland.
These could be trying times for Liverpool!
