Are comeback kings Liverpool riding their luck a bit?

Rafael Benitez’s men continue to match Chelsea stride-for-stride at the top of the Premier League, although they have been going about earning their collection of three points in quite an unconventional fashion!

While Chelsea strode to a 5-0 win at The Riverside on Saturday, Liverpool made hard work of beating Wigan, in a match which summarised their season to date. Since beating Middlesbrough 2-1 on 23rd August, the Reds have come from behind on no fewer than four occasions, beating Manchester United and Manchester City after also falling behind.

While Liverpool fans will no doubt point out that this is testament to the character of the team, displaying a never-say-die spirit which has ensured these victories, others might argue that they’re riding their luck a bit. There are surely only so many times that you can keep falling behind in a match and working your way out of trouble.

True enough, Daniel Agger is unlikely to have the same sort of defensive lapse that he experienced to let Amr Zaki score the opener at Anfield, but are Liverpool fans concerned that they’re struggling to win games more comprehensively this season. Everton are the only team that they have beaten by more than one goal – is this really the stuff of champions?
