‘I wished I’d punched Manchester United defender’ claims big-mouthed Chelsea striker

When it comes to listing some of the toughest players in the Premier League, Nemanja Vidic would surely be included by many football fans. The Manchester United defender has a no-nonsense style-of-play, and is regularly given the responsibility of marking the opposition’s most dangerous striker, something that he does very well.

One of his most outstanding performances of last season was in the Champions League final, where he kept Didier Drogba quieter than a church mouse, frustrating the Ivorian to the extent where the latter was red-carded for slapping the Serbian. The Daily Star now reveals that Didier Drogba wishes he had gone the whole hog and fetched Vidic one around the chops, something that he might have lived to regret!

And he said: “I have seen the match on video and I believe I should not have been sent off with three minutes to go.

“If I had punched him, I would have understood. Now I wish I had.”

Obviously, Drogba isn’t aware that raising your hands to an opponent immediately puts you in danger of being dismissed, and the above comments are not particularly productive ones to make. The Ivorian is a great player, yet Chelsea fans must be embarrassed by the number of times he makes outspoken comments such as the one above, while his loyalty to the club has never been certain.
