Liverpool join Manchester City in hunt for this Premier League hotshot

Rafael Benitez may have spent over £20 million on Robbie Keane and have arguably the best striker in the world on the books at Anfield, although that hasn’t stopped him from throwing his hat into the ring as far as this forward is concerned. But can they compete with the financial might of Manchester City, despite having a much better team at the moment?

The Metro claim Liverpool are leading the chase for Amr Zaki’s signature, although this is surely a misleading headline. After all, Zamalek have already declared that they will be meeting with Manchester City to discuss the player’s future, and it’s surely the Eastlands club who are in the box seat as far as the Wigan striker is concerned right now.

Zamalek have now claimed they can do business with anyone they choose.

‘We will have the right to sell Zaki to any club,’ president Mamdouh Abbas said.

That revelation has led Benitez to admit he would be interested in the Egypt international.

‘Everybody will be checking his situation now,’ the Reds boss admitted.

Zaki scored twice in Wigan’s 3-2 defeat at Liverpool on Saturday, while Manchester City are also reportedly keen on the 25-year-old.

One thing’s for sure, it appears that Zaki won’t be staying at the JJB Stadium very long if he continues to score at such a rate. The Egyptian made it eight goals for the season after his brace at Anfield, and he would surely be knocking on the door to get into any Premier League team at the moment. Would Liverpool fans like to see him boshing goals for the Reds, or do they feel they have enough firepower already?
