According to this source the long running chase for this young French playmaker is hotting up but Wenger apparently has the edge on his Premier League rivals!
Arsenal are closing in on Saint-Etienne midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
The France U21 international is seen by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as a potential replacement for former skipper Gilberto Silva, now with Panathinaikos.
Matuidi is expected to attract an £8 million offer from Arsenal in January, though Tottenham and Chelsea have also had scouts at St Etienne games in recent weeks. (tribalfootball.com)
Matuidi is a player that Arsene appears to have been eyeing up for a while now, the 21 year old had a good season at Saint Etienne last term helping them to a UEFA Cup spot. The former Troyes man is also a regular in the French Under 21 line up and is very close to a call up to the senior set up and his biggest fan is apparently Arsenal‘s French scout and former defender Gilles Grimandi and the former Gunner has reportedly urged the Gunners boss to splash the cash for a player who could well serve as an able deep lying midfielder for the club. Do Emirates fans feel that the club should be aiming to sign up more experienced heads rather than yet more youthful talent?
