‘Arsenal will win the league this season’ claims La Liga star
by stresster on October 21st, 2008While many (Cesc Fabregas included) have bemoaned Arsenal’s over-reliance on youth this season, stating that experienced players should have been drafted into the squad, there’s one particular person who feels that some of Arsene Wenger’s colts are starting to blossom and bear fruit. Indeed, this former Highbury favourite goes as far as to state that the Gunners will clinch the Premier League title this season, conveniently forgetting there are three other teams that stand in their way.
Setanta report that Robert Pires likes what he sees at the Emirates, claiming that the youngsters are now starting to mature. The Frenchman is now plying his trade with Villarreal, and although he tips his own team to triumph in the Champions League, he reserved many kind words for his former club.
“Arsenal’s young players are like fruits that have ripened,” Pires told setantasports.com. “I feel like they matured, grew up and when I watch them, I see a lot of allure.
“Something is for sure – they are going to win the league this season. But I did not say they are going to win the Champions League, because we at Villarreal are going to do so.
“To finish, I would say ‘Come on Arsenal’.
“Mika (Silvestre) is a great lad and a talented defender so for sure his addition to the squad should be seen as good news for the fans,” he added.
“Unfortunately, he got injured as soon as he arrived at the club, which it is not the perfect start you expect. But he is one of the most professional players you would see around and, to me, there is no doubt he is a good signing.”
It’s clear that the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy and Denilson have all progressed nicely through the ranks and are now first-team regulars, although a few injuries tends to leave the Arsenal squad looking a little threadbare. Do supporters agree with Bobby Pires that the young guns have matured, or are too many of them still wet behind the ears?

COME ON ARSENAL…………………
Gunner999 - October 21st, 2008 at 11:11 am
We have more experience AND youth than last season, we were only 4 points away, we went ahead at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford before loosing both games…
Dont think that would happen again if we take those leads.
Had we won those games and the home game against Liverpool (we deserve to win the away at Anfield as well) then we would have won the title by 7 points.
Only real miss is Flamini, but come one guys, we get rid of Henry and almost win the league without him… why is Flamini suddendly more important now than Henry was?
I think that Diaby, Denilson, Ramsey, Song and Birchoff are all good young players that have to develop their games around Fabregas to succeed as this club.

Hilarious.
You haveno chance of beating Chelsea and Man Utd. They have too much strength in depth. Not going to happen.

Hey Spurs 4 Life, u don’t say anymore at this colume! Your team are the worst now.
Still dreaming to win something? Bullshit man! Go away! Only 2 point by now and at the rock bottom, haha. Stop dreaming! For sure Gunners will win something this season. Good luck lads!
gunner - October 21st, 2008 at 1:21 pm
i av no doubt we can beat all of the other top four teams… wen we play at our best we can beat anyone.
the problem is our inconsistency, we r losing to teams we reli shudnt be because we a little over-confident and naive about the fact we have to play 100% every game.
but no doubt about it wen we play chelsea Man U and liverpool we shud win, we have too much class and the team will be so motivated and so determined to win tht they will give 100%… i cnt wait for the big games.

Of course Spurs 4 Life very proud of their league cup last season. But I think he is much more happy now because Spurs is no1 now in the league. I am sure they will protect their “lead” and position and prevent any team take over them.

.Gunner999, it’s not about ifs and buts and we all have our gripe with that one, but …get ready! it’s consistency. Arsenals problem is relying to much on the kids, it’s four long years if you need reminding since you last won silverware and you need a mix of youth and experience to sustain you through a long hard season to have any chance of winning the league. Also your squad is not strong enough, your main rivals have all strengthened this season and I think it will prove a problem to you as the season moves on when injuries, suspensions etc take their toil you will be left with the bare bones. Chelsea and United have both been hit with injuries this season but have had adequate cover to be able to cope, injuries are always a set back, especially when it hits your top players but if your squad is strong enough it will see you through and help you keep the consistency to go on to winning the league

“Hey Bobby, what’s the French for ‘you’re avin a giraffe?’”
Mal - October 23rd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I think Spurs will thump Arsenal at Emirates on the 29th October to make it three losses for Arsenal in 10 games which is definetely not the sort of return for a team looking to win the premiership.
Pires is living in dream land. Chelsea will win the league and Man Utd a close second.
Spurs will rise……..WATCH this space on Sunday!!! It cant get any worse….the only way is up Whoop Whoop
casandra - October 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Mal, I am not a Spurs fan but some how feel sorry
to see you in such a precocious position, I really thought this season under Ramos you could make a strong challenge for a forth spot but now you are under so much pressure and to be honest it does not look good! I hope you pull away out of trouble, good luck.
