Newcastle’s interim boss has gone totally off the reservation: Could this bad boy really be destined for the starting XI?

Newcastle’s favourite boxing champions could be set for a shock return to the club after facing a six-match ban for fighting. Manager Joe Kinnear believe that his midfielder has learned his lesson (for the 1,000th time) and should be given another chance.

Joey Barton, 26, is available for selection after completing a six-match ban and will get a chance to force his way into contention for the televised match at the Stadium of Light when he turns out for Newcastle reserves against Middlesbrough at Billingham Synthonia tonight.

“I’m going with Joey myself tonight to Middlesbrough to have a look at what shape he’s in,” Kinnear said.

“I’ve been pleased with him in training, and with his attitude. He’s a decent player and will come into contention, for sure.

“You want all your best players available when you’re going into difficult and tough matches.” (Telegraph)

Another chance? My, Newcastle really do have an affinity for letting bad boy’s back on the squad. Whilst most would agree that every player deserves a second chance; I’m sure those same people would agree that four or five massive mistakes doesn’t garner another shot. Only time will tell if this opportunity is worth it for Newcastle.

What do Newcastle supporters think? Has Barton earned himself another shot?
