Blackburn manager mocks Aston Villa over their money woes: You don’t have the funds for our STRIKER!
by offsidetrap on October 23rd, 2008Blackburn might be sitting mid-table in the league behind Aston Villa, but that hasn’t stopped manager Paul Ince from making an unnecessary dig at one of his league counterparts. Instead of taking the high road in the recent transfer fight for striker Roque Santa Cruz, Ince has gone out of his way to make sure Villa don’t get his prized striker. He’s claiming that Martin O’Neill doesn’t have the funds to get Santa Cruz!
Blackburn manager Paul Ince has said Aston Villa cannot afford striker Roque Santa Cruz and that the 27-year-old striker will not be going anywhere in January. (Daily Star)
Ince is one to talk considering his Blackburn club didn’t have the funds to retain David Bentley over the summer. Whilst Villa haven’t been clear about their January intentions, they did make it known that ownership was set to give them £30m for future signings. So Ince better be careful how he phrases his comments!

Even in this article it points out Villa seem to have money to spend…I’m confused where the “money woes” referred to in the headline are…

I agree. We did have the money to keep Bentley as we did with the likes of Bellamy. Unfortunately they believed that the grass was greener elsewhere!!! I think Ince’s comments refer to the fact that he considers Santa Cruz as a priceless commodity rather than inferring that Villa are on the brink of financial meltdown. No wonder Ince is getting frustrated, what with all the inflammatory reporting and all.
