This sources suggests that moneybags City will not have to break the bank for a player who was once one of the best finishers on the planet and still has a lot to offer!
Michael Owen’s three years at Newcastle United are almost complete, and it has been reported that Manchester City are preparing to sign the 28 year old.
City boss Mark Hughes has already decided to match the strikers £5million-plus wage demands.
A source close to the player said: “Michael needs to kick start his career and win back his England place.
“The Newcastle move never really worked out.”
Although only 73 days away from finishing his career at St James’ Park, Owen could be sitting out 10 of those after sustaining a groin injury. (Soccerglobe.net)
Michael Owen’s time at St James’ Park may well have been blighted by injury but the England international has still managed 25 goals in 47 starts for the club, which is a very good strike rate for a striker who is supposedly misfiring. Given that Emile Heskey fought his way back into the England reckoning the former Real Madrid frontman must feel that a run of good performances and a new challenge at the Eastlands could see him back in an Three Lions jersey and Mark Hughes may well see the signing as a purchase that would be too good to turn down. Do Manchester City fans think a move for the former Liverpool legend would be a good one or is he past his best?
