Should Liverpool have made this £16m WINGER signing?
by Mr Comfort on October 23rd, 2008A player that went up against Rafa and the boys last night could so easily have been playing for the Reds, but the deal didn’t go ahead, but should Benitez have tried harder to sign this winger?

Atletico Madrid winger Simao Sabrosa admits he could easily have been playing for Liverpool at the Vicente Calderon.
He told guillembalague.com: “(laughing) I don’t remember, it was a while ago….no…I was on the verge of signing, just about to travel to Liverpool, but there were complications and I couldn’t make the trip over because of one thing or another and, in the end, Benfica wouldn’t let me leave. (Tribalfootball.com)
There is no doubting the talent of the Portuguese wide-man, even though he does have a tendency to fall to the floor at the merest suggestion of a tackle, but could he have been a very useful Liverpool player? Simao has a good turn of pace and trickery to beat a man or two, and the 28-year-old could well have been impressing the fans at Anfield on a weekly basis had things worked out when he was at Benfica. So do Reds fans feel that he was the kind of player that Rafa could have tried harder to clinch?

Simao was on the plane on the way to Liverpool until he recieved a call from the President of Benfica who told him the move was off. Can’t blame Rafa it was the player that wasn’t allowed to move!
