Another day, another quote from Robert Pires, who must have a direct line to someone at Setanta. The ex-Arsenal winger has been waxing lyrical about Arsenal’s youngsters and Cristiano Ronaldo already this week, and now he’s chosen to pass comment on an Arsenal forward who was regularly linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer. Can this really be true?

Setanta report that the Villarreal midfielder is certain about Emmanuel Adebayor’s love of Arsenal, claiming that the striker’s decision to stay at the North London club was down to the passion he feels for the badge. It therefore seems strange that he was also making such incessant wage demands throughout the summer months.

“I am going to tell you something, I understand Adebayor is literally in love with Arsenal,” Pires told setantasports.com.

“If this was not the case he would have joined Barcelona and would not be at Arsenal still.

“Arsene [Wenger] convinced him to stay and valued his work.

“I know him a bit, and most of all I know his agent, Stephane Courbis [Pires’ former representative].

“I am convinced he will win titles with Arsenal and is going to stay at Emirates Stadium.”

Pires is now starting to sound a bit like a pub drunk, rambling on to anyone who chooses to listen to him. Arsenal fans are surely not so gullible as to believe that Adebayor deeply loves the club, especially with the shenanigans that took place over the summer. Does the striker need to produce some bright goalscoring performances to continue winning the fans over? After all, he’s only scored in one of the Gunners’ eight league games to date.
