Liverpool expecting to win at Chelsea: Will the 86-match record finally come to an end?
by stresster on October 24th, 2008Fernando Torres may not be fit for Sunday’s match, but there will still be eleven determined players in a red shirt that take to the Stamford Bridge pitch on Sunday. Liverpool have already beaten Manchester United this season and they’re now focused on landing an even bigger scalp and putting some daylight between themselves and their nearest title rival.
The Daily Mirror reports that Xabi Alonso is feeling confident about the visitors’ chances in west London, stating that they are going there for the three points and expect to get a result against Phil Scolari’s expensively-assembled side.
“We won’t be going to Stamford Bridge with any fear. We respect them as a very good side but we are confident in our own ability and believe we can win. Of course, Chelsea have an incredible record at home in the Premier League.
“But records have to be broken eventually, and we honestly feel we are ready to get a good result there. We have more strength in depth and more confidence than before.
“After the results we have had this season we are right to be confident. We expect a tough game, but we go into every game expecting to win now and Sunday will be no different.”
While Liverpool might expect to gain victory in this match, it’s likely that they’ll set up defensively for the game, especially after the previously watertight defence has started to creak recently. Should we expect to see the Reds have a real go at Chelsea as Alonso states, or will it be another bore draw as it was last season?

I’m really looking forward to this game as a Liverpool fan. I have mixed emotions but my confidence in Liverpools ability won’t be shaken.
Liverpool’s title ambitions do not rest on this game, so many say that its too early to say who will win the title, but they are willing to write off the Kop this early. Although a win would see a boost in confidence and a lot of eyes may open. I can’t see a loss hurting us that badly. We have shown early this season we have a lot of grit and determination so we would keep going. Man Utd lost to us but they haven’t slowed down.
I haven’t seen a team have this much belief in a long time and soon enough you will know that even if Liverpool don’t win on Sunday they will still be in it come May.

If your article is based around one fact and you can’t even be bothered to find out what that fact is, why bother reading the rest of your piss-poor piece?

“Liverpool have already beaten Manchester United this season and they’re now focused on landing an even bigger scalp”
What, Chelsea have won more trophies than Man Utd? They have a bigger fan base? Bigger how?
I think Liverpool fans are reading too much into beating Man Utd early on in the season. Clearly, Man U’s form has drastically improved since that game and the draw with Newcastle.
Don’t believe the hype!

A win is a win and the fact is, to win this league u need to beat the big teams. If liverpool had done that last season then the league table would be different, Saying that if we had won more of our 11 draws then i’m sure we would have been much closer if not top. Remember, ‘Form is Temporary but Class is Permenant’ We have the class and the confidence from a win at chelsea could be just the trick to maintain our form…

Ren, if Liverpool win on Sunday, it will be a MUCH bigger scalp than beating United. I, and all Liverpool fans would always rather beat United than anyone but a win on Sunday would not only end Chelsea’s run but put Liverpool 3 points clear at the top of the table as the only undefeated team in the league - it would be MASSIVE.
Anyway, more questions will be answered about Chelsea than Liverpool on Sunday - there is a chance that Chelsea will win the league this season with great ease, and a lot of people already expect them to do so. All that is expected of Liverpool this season is to challenge - remember, Chelsea were pretty poor at home to United, Spurs and Roma this season and yet nobody gives Pool a prayer. Great news for us Kopites!
