Spurs EXPECTED to make £9m STRIKER bid: Harry’s first signing?
by Mr Comfort on October 26th, 2008New manager and therefore a whole new set of transfer rumours, however this Reading man has been pursued before but now according to this source the Irishman is back on the radar.
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
KEVIN DOYLE has emerged as the man Tottenham want to turn their season around.
They sent two scouts to watch the Reading striker against Doncaster, when he scored in a 2-1 win.
Sacked sporting director Damien Comolli failed with a £7million deadline-day bid for the Irishman but Spurs are now desperate for reinforcements up front. (News of the World)
£9m rated Doyle has been in magnificent form this season but there must be a concern that the 25 year old is not exactly the earth shattering signing that the club needs to avoid the dreaded drop. However he has proven he has what it takes in the Premier League and he has an eye for goal and has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. He may well be just the kind of hard working non-superstar player that Redknapp opts for. Who do Tottenham fans think the new boss should splash out on in January?

ciderspurs61 - October 26th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Defoe back, james in goal and doyle/healy up front……..Redknapp will work his charm and bring in unknown but top and secure hard working talent. People who kiss the badge and earn their spurs. As YAZZ said “the only way is up”…..COYS

I would love to see Spurs get back its British identity. It has started well with the appointment of a capable and experienced English Manager. At least, there will not be any communication problem.I would, indeed, like to see Defoe back with Spurs. Doyle and Heskey would also be good signings.
Spurs Dude - October 26th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Diarra would be good.
The Jermaine man Defoe is a MUST, bring the boy back HOME.
As for Kevin Doyle, surely we can aim higher than that ????.
TOP MAN - October 26th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
FORGET HESKEY MAYBE DOYLE BUT DEFFO AMR ZAKI ,DEFOE AND DIARRA MAYBE JAMES

my management team should be teddy, g robert, k bond.
Rob - October 27th, 2008 at 6:34 am
Diarra would be geat, Defoe would be great, But even better than either of them, a fracking left winger would be the first one we had at the club since Ginola! We need one so that O’hara and Huddlestone can swap different games as the anchor man in midfield allowing Modric to move forward (which he did, loved, and thrived on against bolton)
jiun yan - October 27th, 2008 at 6:45 am
If sol campbell is needed to boost the defence, then get him…who cares wat he did last time…we (the club itself) also cock up about the whole matter…swallow the pride…but who ever comes in must be able to play with bent or palychenko..
JD - October 27th, 2008 at 8:06 am
WE MUST AIM A LOT HIGHER THAN DOYLE THE GUY IS IN A TYPICALLY LOWER GRADE OF FOOTBALL AT THE MOMENT AND HAD HE SCORED MORE GOALS IN THE PREMIERSHIP MAYBE READING WOULD HAVE STAYED UP SO HARRY LOOK ELSE WHERE , DIARRA IN / ZOKORA OUT , O`SHEA IN / JENAS OUT , UPTON IN / DAWSON OUT , TAYLOR IN / EOTTO OUT , PARKER IN / O`HARA OUT , CAREW IN / BENT OUT , DEFOE IN WITH HARRY`S BOOT UP HIS BACKSIDE WHEN HE START`S TO LOOK LAZY , ASHLEY YOUNG IN , A LATE MOVE FOR BECKHAM HARRY WOULD NOT BE A BAD BET !!!!!!!
COME ON YOU SPURS - October 27th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Defoe, Diarra, Distan and Kranjar. Only prob being they will be cup tied.
Graham - October 27th, 2008 at 9:58 am
I would love Sol to come back it might even sort out the problem between him and the fans if he comesback to save us
Jermain - October 27th, 2008 at 10:09 am
I am Defoe. I’d be happy to come back for an extra $10k per week, which we’d now happily give me cos you’re desperate.
I would insist on a big lump next to me who can take a few kicks and slot me in.
Crouchy’s not bad but a bit of a jessy. Bent wont do that and Pavlywhatsisname looks pretty average to me.
So Big Emile will do. Or Luca Toni if you want someone who might chip in with a few. Don’t matter really cos I’ll get a boatload once I’m the main man without that pesky Irish plonker who Jol and Ramos kept picking ahead of me.
meesterlee - October 27th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Niko Kranj?ar would be a fantastic signing on the left. I’m unsure if it matters whether he’s cuptied or not. The UEFA cup is surely an irrelevance now, and the Carling Cup is still a third rate trophy (whether we won it last season or not).
I’d certainly go for Diarra as a midfield enforcer and Distin would be good. However Defoe would be a step backwards, he’s an able striker, however when he’s playing you have to play a 4-4-2 which is currently outdated. Modric played much better ahead of the midfield, but he’d need a striker who can hold the ball up and score goals. Ths rules out Defoe, Bent and Heskey. Berbatov was the best in the league at this and we’d need someone of his calibre.
No matter how unconvincing Gomes is on crosses, his shot stopping is pretty awesome, and he’s made some phenominal saves already this season. He needs time to get used to the English style and is well worth keeping hold of. I don’t understand anyone who is championing James as our next hope, the guy is also poor on crosses, is a great shotstopper, but is about 93. Anyone who has watched his keeping for Portsmouth and England so far this season can see that his standards have dropped substantially and its not as if he’s going to get any better.
If I’m honest I think Redknapp is a bit of a regressive step, he’s not really achieved anything as a manager, the FA Cup last year wasn’t as great an achievement as has been mooted, Portsmouth beat three Championship clubs in successive rounds at the start of their FA Cup campaign: Ipswich, Plymouth and Preston. Then they beat Manchester United thanks to a Sulley Ali Muntari penalty in a highly controversial game in which they were battered, West Brom outplayed them in the semi-final and were unlucky to lose, and they only beat Cardiff 1-0 in a game where they looked to be playing a containing style against a team a division below.
Redknapp will give us impetus and hopefully will save us from the drop, but he won’t win us trophies or achieve a top four finish. I reckon ENIC just want premiership survival, just so they can maintain their inflated price for the club when they sell.
meesterlee - October 27th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Luca Toni is not a possibility he is being paid 150,000 Euros a week at Bayern, not only that but didn’t you see him at the European Championships? He was woeful and was reminiscent of Andy Booth in his Spurs pomp, only with less talent.
PAULIE R - October 27th, 2008 at 11:42 am
It’s got to be Defoe! He would be SO up for it and probably make a great partnership with Pavel-Iverson! We were already singing his name yesterday and it would lift the club no end to have him back. We all knew Berba was going so why the hell did we let him go in the first place ….just to save a few quid! Look where it got us! Bring the boy home!
TM - October 27th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Would love to see Defoe return and definitely keen on Diarra. Would also like to see a world class centre back. Wagner Love would be a “nice to have” but priority would definitely be Diarra, Defoe and CB.
Spurs56 - October 27th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Doyle, no way, not good enough by far. We got the money to aim higher. Also, James in goal, am I reading this wrong?? He’s the most danger-prone liability of a keeper in the PL. Get Diarra, Podolski and a GOOD replacement CB. Although i’d love Podolski, Defoe is more likely and I’d be happy if he came back.
spurs 4 lyf - October 27th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
DONT BRING DEFOE BACK
i like him but if he was scoring like he is now tottenham wouldnt of sold him he gets nervous playing in front of 36,000 people leave him and crouch get diarra he is quality and play fraizer campbell hes gonna b a superstar when he is older
The Holy - October 27th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Spurs were starting to look fantastic with a team built around British talent. This was torn apart in the last few years and Harry would do well to ensure that the stability is bought back.
Imagine this team, not as expensive as you might think:
GK - Carson £3 Million - Superb already and will be the next England keeper
LB - Bale - Already here and one of the brightest prospects around
CB - King - Already here and the best around
CB - Woodgate - Unsung hero, consistent and not one to change
RB - Hutton - I personally feel he is in the top 3 around, great prospect
LM - O’Hara - Improving and looks great on the left wing
CM - Huddlestone - The holding midfielder who can pass, super prospect
CM - Modric - Can provide the goods and a real livewire
RM - Bentley - Fantastic player with a brilliant cross
CF - Defoe £7.5 Million - Pompey need the money so buy him back now
CF - Bent - I feel time has changed these players, perfect partnership
You probably ask where is Jenas ,Pavlyuchenko, Lennon, Gomes, Zokora, Dos Santos & Corluka? Well if Spurs are to keep Harry they need to compete in 3 Cups and the league, and you will need a squad with attacking flair. Having the ability to move to three strikers is a superb option, and players like Lennon are much better introduced late on when legs are tired. Zokora and Jenas are great engines to bring on later as their energy would be exagerated.
What the side above creates is a solid classey team, capable of scoring goals and unlikely to lose many games. Many will say this looks like what we had before a few years ago, but my answer is that we were twice top 5 and those players were young and imature then. Look at the ages and do not forget that most mature around 27-29 years old. Even today they are young but imagine how inexperienced they were before?
Current ages:
Bale - 19 yrs
Bentley - 24 yrs
Huddlestone - 21 yrs
Lennon - 21 yrs
Jenas - 25 yrs
Bent - 24 yrs
Dawson - 24 yrs
O’Hara - 22 yrs
Modric - 23 yrs
This team could be brilliant if we just start to believe in them. Look at King, Woodgate, Keane, Luke Young, Barry, Rio Ferdinand, Terry , Ashley Cole, Bridge, Upson, Gerrard, Lampard, Shaun Wright Phillips and even Heskey and Crouch. All these players are 27 - 30 years old and most have reached their best form now. Defoe is 26 and is starting to fire on all cylinders, exactly my point yet he was very inconsistent at Spurs. Etherington is now 27 and look at how he is firing now. Even Erik Edmund at 29 yrs is looking solid at left back.
Stop looking for foreign talent who only have one motive - MONEY. Stick with these superstars in the making and soon we will have the glory years back at White Heart Lane.
My Carson and Defoe additions are a mere £10.5 Million, when it is reported that Harry has £70 million to spend. Please Harry believe in our young stars and we will soon reap the rewards. If we have to spend the £70 Million buy three world class players, and not players who are no better than we have.
My choices would be the following three:
1. Joe Cole - 26 yrs old and just begining to fire
2. Michael Owen - still only 28 yrs old and could fire in a good team - Class
3. Phil Jagielka - Classy defensive engine house - 26 yrs and on fire.
This almost all British squad has tremendous ability and would be so young with some great experienced heads.
The grass is not greener and we could become great again.

Good notes “the holy” - but i still think healy can add some venom up front. Harry will work his charm and bring in some english talent…………..AND even if he tempts sol and defoe back, i would be a happy spur. We have got to stop looking back now….the future is white, the future is lillywhite! COYS
