Rafa Benitez is planning on going head-to-head with Sir Alex for this highly-rated young keeper!
Manchester United face competition from Liverpool for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
United are regarded as favourites for the young Spaniard, whose contract carries a relatively affordable £4 million buyout clause.
However, Sport says Liverpool have also been in contact as they consider Asenjo as potential cover for Pepe Reina. Indeed, he could arrive at Anfield as Liverpool’s new No1 if Reina is tempted to Atletico Madrid next summer. (tribalfootball.com)
19-year-old Asenjo is already a first choice La Liga keeper which in itself tells a story. You rarely see a goalie given such a responsibility at that age, but the Valladolid man has proven himself at the top tier level of the Spanish game and it was always likely that a big club would come in for him. He is also being chased by Real Madrid and Barcelona apparently, but Rafa could possibly persuade the youngster to move to the lucrative Premier League.
Do Liverpool fans think the club would be wise to snap up this starlet?
