Tottenham’s new manger set to raid former club in January: Will Portsmouth fight back?

Losing a manager with a quarter of the season gone is never a good thing; however, losing a quality manager, and then learning that he’s going to come back and raid his former squad is definitely worse.

After leaving Portsmouth for the dream of a relegation battle, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is already planning his January targets in what will surely be a fascinating couple of weeks for his new club. Nobody knows for sure who Redknapp is targeting at the moment, but a certain source has an idea. Pompey better brace themselves!

With Redknapp seeking to strengthen his new Tottenham squad, there is the chance that major players like Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Sylvain Distin, Glen Johnson and Lassana Diarra will also opt to follow their 61-year-old mentor to White Hart Lane.

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie revealed it was a huge shock to lose Redknapp, who had been back at the club since December 2005 having quit a year earlier and controversially taken the manager’s job at local rivals Southampton, adding that he may come back and sign players he had brought to Fratton Park for major fees. It just doesn’t seem right that a manager can come back to his former club and raid them of every good player they have. But when you’re Tottenham and you have funds, you take chances like this whenever they come along.

Pompey’s owner Alexandre Gaydamak has made it clear in the last month that the club isn’t prepared financially to get in a bidding war over some of their star players. That means Defoe, Crouch, Johnson and Distin among others could be on their way to North London for the right price.

Do Tottenham supporters want any of the current players from Pompey? What do Pompey supporters think of the potential raid?
