If there’s one thing that’s eluded Liverpool recently more than anything else, its been club’s inability to make the most of match against the big four in the league. Well after match against two of the supposed big four (Chelsea and Manchester United), Liverpool can now boast having a maximum 6 points from the two matches. Finally Liverpool and Rafa Benitez are living up to their expectations. They sit three-points clear of Chelsea and Hull with another difficult match against Redknapp-less Pompey on Wednesday. But there’s something different about this squad that makes them a prohibitive favourite early in the season.
The old Liverpool game of hanging back and booming long-balls down the pitch are gone. In its place is a killer instinct for the goal that has the opposition on their toes from the first whistle. Whilst the open play might leave Liverpool vulnerable at the back during periods, it hasn’t taken away from the offensive onslaught they’ve had recently. Most believe Liverpool will be there at the end regardless. But are they a serious pick for the league?
