Benitez goes head-to-head with Redknapp for this Argentinean international, but is he needed or could he be a bit too expensive?
Fernando Cavenaghi, currently playing for Ligue 1 team Bordeaux, is reportedly being chased by new Tottenham Hotspurs manager Harry Redknapp in addition to Premiership rivals Liverpool.
Cavenaghi, as a striker, would help fill in the shocking lack of striking talent at White Hart Lane, with only Pavlyuchenko, Bent, and Campbell as the only recognised forwards. Redknapp is also expected to push for a transfer for Portsmouth and England International forward Jermain Defoe in January.
Cavenaghi has scored 22 goals in 35 appearances for Bordeaux, and his valuation currently stands at around £15m. A move to White Hart Lane seems more likely at the moment, given that Benitez will have to sell off players to raise the funds to purchase Cavenaghi, a barrier that new Spurs manager Redknapp wont face. This hotshot is in a rich vein of form, and maybe Rafa could somehow manage to play this Argentine in the same team as Torres and Keane? It could be possible if the Irishman is in an even more withdrawn role, and if he can’t be played in the same team, would the £15m needed for the Bordeaux man be a bit too much to fork out for a squad player?
It would be a brave move for Rafa either way, but considering the attackers at Man United, maybe Liverpool need to break the bank to keep up? Do Reds fans think that Benitez should splash the cash to boost their attacking options?
