As well as stars, the top tier has more than its fair share of dead wood, but who are the biggest culprits? Who has been a complete waste of money?!
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
Every club, okay almost every club, has a selection of players who really do make you wonder why your boss laid out the funds for them. For instance, Sir Alex fought for Owen Hargreaves’ signature and what happened, well nothing. He hasn’t played very much because when he has played, he has looked very ordinary. Some Spurs fans are already questioning the wisdom of big money signing David Bentley, so maybe he would make your list. West Ham of course could point to Luis Boa Morte, boy that £5m was badly spent!
You get the idea, fill in the cut and paste thingy below, you don’t need to pick ten, one will do and then stand back and see what your fellow fans make of your selection!

Sean, what have you seen in the 20 or so minutes of Premiership football that Bojinov has played to call him a flop?
Was it falling awkwardly and snapping his cruciate ligament? or slipping and snapping his achillies tendon that made you think he wasnt worth 5.5million?
No signing can be called a flop until he has been with his new club for 6months at least. make that a year if he has come from a foreign league an under the age of 25

I love the guy who says Bojinov is not a flop because he’s barely played, then lists Hargreaves as a flop, who has barely played. City fan no doubt. Also the article, hasn’t done much? How bout that free kick vs arse last year? or that excellent deployment in the CL final?
Anyway:
- David Healy
- David Rozenhal (flogged already though)
- Aaron Lennon
- Florent Malouda
- Alan Smith

@m4tr and other Bojinov bashers
You can’t compare Bojinov to Hargreaves – Bojinov has been injured for all but 2 games since he arrived – he played 5 minutes of the Derby on his debut then was out for the entire season then was injured in the warm up to the first game this season has been out ever since. You can’t be a flop if you’ve not had the opportunity to play – it’s not like he’s not being picked …. when he’s been fit he’s been straight into the team. I’m not saying Hargreaves is a flop either by the way.
My top 3 would be:
1. Per Koldrup – star in Seria A and only got two games for Everton – very strange
2. Juan S. Veron
3. Shevchenko

Hargreaves is 27, came from the German League, and has made 37 appearances
Bojinov is 21, came from the Italian League, and has played about 20 minute of permiership football, as a substitute.
Brilliant comparison m4tr, just brilliant.

Lennon ?! A ludicrous suggestion…..
Spurs paid 1million for him (which is pittance compared to most players being mentioned in the list), he is only 21 and still developing and is a great impact player. Most are aware of shortcomings (no end product) but I’m pretty sure that when Ronaldo first moved to the Premiership the same was said about him. With the chopping and changing of managers at Spurs, it’s hardly surpising he hasn’t delivered to his potential – yet.
If Spurs were to sell him, what would they get for him ? I’m pretty sure a lot more than the 1m they paid for him. What other “flops” can you say that about ?

I have to agree with all the city fans about Bojinov, as you need to have actually played to be judged a flop or not.
Also got to agree that its amazing that the likes of Samaras, Vuoso or Macken haven’t been mentioned but poor Valeri has, bizarre!

@ m4re – doesn’t the decription say “.Who has been a complete waste of money” ?! Now even if you’re right and he doesn’t fufil his potential, his goal against Chelsea is worth 1m all on its own:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ABV171jTs3I
There’s not one player mentioned in anyones list who hasn’t either cost more than 5m or being paid astronomical wages. Lennon fits neither of these categories so just admit you’re wrong.

Have to laugh at Spurs fans slagging off Bent. They claimed Defoe “lacked quality” until he finally left for a side that appreciated him. Hopefully Bent (a top scorer in the league before Spurs) wont have to leave Tottenham to once again demonstrate what an ungrateful lot they are.

Thompson - October 28th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
For the likes of Lennon and Kluivert, they cannot really be classed as flops, because they were free. Kluivert promised a lot, he was a top player and got top wages but we got what we paid for.
The likes of Veron, Luque, Hargreaves, even Carrick, the geordie that he is, failed to live up to their price tag. Even Rozenhal was only about 2 million, so i wouldnt call him a flop, just bad judgement on behalf of Big Sam. See what happens when you give him money. Before this season I would have put Rooney and Walcot as flops cos they cost more than they were worth, but this season has show they are worth the investment.

11 Per Kroldrup, Udinese to Everton, £5m, June 2005
Everton paid a fortune for the Denmark central defender but then showed no interest in actually playing him amid suggestions they had suddenly discovered he couldn’t head the ball. Made one league appearance before returning to Italy.
