Anyone can fork out millions on the next big thing; it takes knowledge and guts to find a talent without breaking the bank. There are some great bargain players currently plying their trade in the Premier League, names that jump to mind are Kolo Toure, Sami Hyypia, Roque Santa Cruz, Richard Dunne and Geovanni, but obviously there are loads to consider.
Of course, in the recent past there are a great many other players to fill your top ten from Ole Gunnar Solsjaker to Ian Wright, so feel free to scour the history books to compile your top ten.
By all means try to find bargains from the past or present to come up with a list that will have your fellow fans nodding in approval.

Oh dear Pants1972
As your name suggests you are quite PANTS and haven’t quite got the grasp of what ‘Top 10 Premier League Bargains’ actually suggests. Let me break it down for you… purchasing or aquiring a football player by means of spending as little as money as possible to show supporters and the general football supporting population that spending obscene amounts of money doesn’t guarantee successful players.
Is that all nice and clear Pants1972!
Alex - October 29th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
So far Albert Riera has been very good for the 6 million we paid for him
Rogz - October 29th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Flamini? The same one bought for 200,000 and that left for nothing? Bargain indeed. Arsene does it again…
Torres
Fabregas
Riera
Berbatov (Spurs made good money out of him)
Bergkamp

Tim Cahill’s one of the best bargains in the league, without doubt. Just over £2m and he’s probably the best in the league at what he does. Every team in the country would want Cahill in their squad, no question about it.
David Moyes has got a few actually, Pienaar and Arteta each cost less than £3m, Lescott was only £5m, and Howard for £2.5m, all of them excellent signings.
Glen Johnson only cost Pompey £4m and he’s probably the best English right back right now, and David James was only £1.2m!
John Carew’s another excellent one, he didn’t cost anything, it was just an exchange with Lyon for Milan Baros, and Carew’s lightyears ahead of him!

Robinho £32.5M Absolute bargain!!!
Legend - October 29th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Oh dear scooby dooby doo. It seems you are also lacking in the knowledge of what a bargain is also. It is not just about cheap purchases, but merely Value for money. Such as buying Torres right now for £30 Million would be a bargain, and £30m isn’t exactly spending as little money as possible is it now? it seems you yourself appear to be also “Pants”
Neal - October 29th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Tevez is not free, no loans are ever free. He is costing £7m per year!
BringBackBananas - October 29th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
thanks sean, i stand corrected.
robinho - 5.5million a goal so far, and its falling fast!!

Hey Bananas, what about Petrov (4.5) Kompany (6) , and if were going to delve, King Col from Bury for 16 quid, a Pendletons Twicer and a pump for Bernard Halfours bike.
BringBackBananas - October 29th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
well i was talkin real bargains at first, but after some of the mentions above i agree vinnie will be seen as a snip at 6million in a couple of years time.
only being 26 i cant comment on colin the king, although my old man said he was an half decent player…
lets throw kinky in the melting pot then. 2million quid
Alex - October 29th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
In no particular order
- Agger (4.5m)
- Pepe Reina (6m)
- Vidic (7ish million?)
- Skrtel (7m)
- Ronaldo (14m euros)
- Fabregas (and the majority of the arsenal team to be fair)
- Joe Cole (signed to chels for 6.6m)
- Deco (8m)
- Ballack (free)
Those in my eyes are the best value signings i can think of, but in terms of paying for themselves i reckon these guys are more than worth their price tags:
Torres
Mascherano
Essien
Anderson
Rio Ferdinand
Drogba

Good spot, totally agree…
Not sure about this but weren’t Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Nelville also free coming through the Utd academy? I’m sure someone will confirm or otherwise.
Yes, Hyppia too, great piece of business. He’s like all those above, priceless really.
