It seems evident from last night’s draw that Wenger needs some more level-headed individuals with experience if they are to mount a realistic Premier League title challenge.
ARSENE WENGER faces competition from an unlikely source over his planned £12million swoop for Italian Alberto Aquilani.
The Arsenal boss has lined up a January move for the highly-rated Roma midfielder as he looks to give Cesc Fabregas extra help.
But the 24-year-old is now a target for big-spending German upstarts Hoffenheim, who have shocked Europe by coming from the second division to catapult themselves into second place in the Bundesliga.
Their wealthy owner, Dietmar Hopp, said: “Aquilani is a great talent and I like him very much.
“We’ll make an offer to Roma and see what happens.”
A player like Aquilani would be ideal for the Gunners, the stylish Italian would be a very intelligent signing who work very well alongside Cesc Fabregas. Apparently unhappy with his lot at Roma, he is seeking a move and if Arsenal’s main obstacle is to overcome high-flying German outfit Hoffenheim, then Wenger should be able to swing the balance in his favour.
The Italian international is one of the few players that I can see being a decent bet for a move to the club, who are looking for some more experienced heads in their line-up to help their title push. Do Gunners fans think the club need to bring in new talent if they are going to keep up with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United?
