This source suggests that Wenger is hot on the heels of a fantastic midfielder, who is apparently ready to leave Barcelona!
Arsenal and Liverpool are on red alert for Barcelona midfielder Xavi.
The Daily Mail says the midfielder has had seven meetings with the Barca powerbrokers about a new deal but no offer has yet been made.
Xavi, 28, is paid less than Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and Carles Puyol.
He is looking for a significant improvement with any new contract and source close to Xavi said: “Barcelona seem to think that because he is Catalan he would never leave the club.
“This is a dangerous and arrogant attitude. He is one of the best midfielders in the world but Barcelona do not seem to realise his value.”
Arsene Wenger would no doubt welcome the prospect of pairing Xavi with his Spain team-mate Cesc Fabregas. Xavi’s arrival would also make Fabregas feel more settled. (tribalfootball.com)
Whilst the idea of a central midfield pairing of Cesc and Xavi would be ideal, it is very unlikely to happen. This source seems to suggest that the Spanish international is set to leave Barcelona, but he is more likely to be just trying to push the club into giving him a wage that he feels he deserves. Given the service he has given the Catalan club, one would expect Pepe Guardiola to give the stylish battler a new improved contract because if he doesn’t, then there will be a wealth of clubs waiting to pounce!
Which experienced players do Gunners fans feel the club should try to sign in order to get their title chase back on track?
