Liverpool LINKED with £10m Premier League WANTAWAY wide man!
by Mr Comfort on November 2nd, 2008This long term Rafa target apparently looks set to finally leave Boro but does Benitez still need the left winger?

Middlesbrough skipper Stewart Downing has had showdown talks with Gareth Southgate - and is ready to push for a move in January.
Downing is unsettled at Boro and has had recent disagreements with Southgate’s backroom staff about his role in the team.
The England international left-winger had a closed-door meeting with his boss to air his grievances last week and word is spreading that he is unsettled.
Downing has been a target for Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa in the past and news of his latest upset will spark fresh interest.
Southgate does not want to lose him, but he has a perfect replacement in young Adam Johnson, who has taken his place in the England under-21 side.
Boro would want around £10million for Downing, who signed a new five-year contract earlier this year - and the money would help Southgate to improve areas of the team that need improving. (Sunday People)
The arrival of Albert Riera at Anfield has proven to be a success and would presumably negate a need to sign Downing, who is in my view very overrated. Seemingly every now and then Stewart issues something of a come and get me plea and there must be a reason that no one takes him up on the offer. Whilst he can and does deliver a great cross I don’t think he is the kind of winger who can take on players and lacks pace to threaten defences so I don’t think anyone in the top six will be considering a move for the England man. Do any Liverpool fans think the club should bid for the 24 year old?

Rafa,go get Kuba from Dortmund,he’s the right winger we need,a great one!
Alex - November 2nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
I actually think Schweinsteiger is the winger we need because he will be cheap as his contract expires soon and he is not happy there. He will be about £10 million and he is fantastic. Because then we could do a deal to get Podolski as well as they are best of friends and again he isn’t happy either. About £22 million for the pair and that really would be awesome. We could even play three up top with Podolski - Torres - Keane. What do you think guys?

if we do sign a right winger please someone tell me what the line up would be as i cant think of a team without kuyt and keane. ok keane hasnt been an instant hit but hell come good given the chance.so tell me the best 11.ive tried and now realise why rafa has such a headache because the workrate of these two brings so much to the team.

Dont rate downing at all.Dont see what all the fuss is about he is a average player and would not improve the squad.Schweinsteiger would be a fantastic buy but im not to keen on podolski.
R.J. - November 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Please be serious!! Downing is CRAP!!
Jammo - November 2nd, 2008 at 11:11 pm

Podolski is ultra versatile in attack. For germany in Euro 08, he sometimes played left wing even though he is a pretty damn good striker

Donavan Ried - November 3rd, 2008 at 12:22 am
Think we need both rigth and left quaility wingers. Riera is poor….. I agree with Alex - November 2nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm ……… Schweinsteiger and Podolski is the way to go
frank - November 3rd, 2008 at 2:35 am
Yeah, time we had a couple of German forwards.

It is fullishness to think him after Albert Riera . Rather in the right Bently is best choice after Balencia (Wigan).

downing is crap and whoever said riera is poor needs their eyes tested. he’s been excellent since he joined.

More mediorce shite, he’s Pennant’s and Yossi’s brother. More bollock’s. Liverpool FC deserves to be associated with a better class of player than Stuart Downing and the two missfits we already have. What kind of scouts do we have? How come the Mancunian dumbfucks and the london Arsenwipes can do better by getting good young and ready to play prem football players and we are only associated with some great new kid that disapear into the reserves, never to be heard of again. We have one of the largest wage’s sheet in the prem with approx 50 pro’s on our books but we still struggle to put out a really good side every week.
Whoever mentioned Swashbuckler and Podcastki is on the right track, good proven players and not more of what we already have, we have too many dungspreaders and not enough class.
