Liverpool TWO set for £9m EXIT: Rafa is spot on again!
by Mr Comfort on November 2nd, 2008Benitez is clearly keen to offload some deadwood in January and, with that in mind, he looks to rid the club of two underperforming players.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is seeking a buyer for Italian fullback Andrea Dossena.
The News of the World says he is troubled by the Italy international’s form.
Rafa knows he may have to sell before he can reinforce his title-chasing side in January.
And that could mean the end of Dossena, 27, and bit-part players like winger Jermaine Pennant, 25. (tribalfootball.com)
I think it’s fair to say that Dossena hasn’t impressed since he arrived at the club, with the Italian seemingly unable to perform consistently for Liverpool’s title chasing side, so it’s no surprise that Rafa is considering selling him. Pennant is a player who has been linked with a move away from Anfield for some time now, with the likes of Stoke City, Blackburn and Portsmouth said to have been interested in the past. Do Reds fans think that either player has displayed enough ability to escape the axe?

He should never have sold Riise (£5 million) this summer and bought in Dossena (£8 million). You have to wonder sometimes who our scouts are watching … Degen and Lucas are more deadwood that are hardly setting the premiership alight. The worst thing is, we always seem to pay over the odds for these average players.
If we’re going to win the premiership, we need a quality right winger to allow Kuyt to play more central up front. Ashely Young from Villa would be a good signing as Villa play him out of position on the left. We could also do with a quality 25 goal a season striker. Maybe Klas Jan Huntelaar from Ajax. Robbie Keane could just become the most expensive flop we’ve ever bought.
I still think our full backs are average. Arbeloa has been caught out of position too many times this season and Aurelio is neither a full back (can’t defend) nor a winger (can’t dribble or pass).

You lot are sooooo stupid. With Pennant’s contract up this summer he’s not going anywhere. Liverpool will find it impossible to sell him because he has to sign the contract. He’ll stay and go on a Bosman in the summer and get that bumper £100k a week OBVIOUSLY!
£7 million… how fucking dumb!
As for Dossena, he’s not going anywhere for more than £4m if we can find a buyer… and if Rafa feels he won’t improve.

I think “red” is being a bit unfair on Auelio. ok, I accept he cant defend, dribble, pass, tackle, head, or stay in position, but the boy can take a mean free kick. Please dont forget Rafa’s comment. “He makes free kicks look like penalties” Rafa, you meant “conversions” He’s a liability!! Get rid of all four fullbacks Rafa.
Aurelio, Dossena, Arbeloa and Deggen are all “Sunday League” players.
Dews - November 2nd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Rafa should just play Insua and let him develop into an awesome player. That will solve left back, just need to be rid of arbeloa and get in rafinha, or give darby a run.
jamie - November 2nd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
i agree dews. they are two very promicing youngsters and they deserve a run out.

I have asked this question time and time again…….red - November 2nd, 2008 at 7:37 pm ……..”You have to wonder sometimes who our scouts are watching” … You are right Red when you say “He should never have sold Riise (£5 million) this summer and bought in Dossena (£8 million).”…… And you are bang on here “The worst thing is, we always seem to pay over the odds for these average players” …. “Robbie Keane could just become the most expensive flop we’ve ever bought.” ….. I said it before that “spurs did a number on us here”….. Klas Jan Huntelaar would be a great buy
Joel - November 2nd, 2008 at 7:42 pm ……. Let himgo then get him off the books…… Pennant/Dossena lets get rid, but get quaility cover first
Don Camillo - November 3rd, 2008 at 1:35 am
Benitez must start giving outstanding players like Insua a chance in the first team instead of buying mediocre players and killing off the careers of young players in the second team.
As for Pennant if were him I’d stay on until the end of my contract. He will have no shortage of suitors when he becomes a free agent.
This will teach Benitez a lesson for dithering over the decision to sell him and trying to get an unrealistic price for a player he considers a flop.

I’d sell them and our full backs, we have alot of poor players at the club and there is no way we will win the league with the current crop. A great start does not mean anything.
Still lacking the creative width like we have been missing for many years. Until rafa starts buying some real quality down these areas we will eventually run out of steam. Dont get me wrong liverpool are a hard team to beat but if we start playing against teams that defend in numbers we wont have the skill to unlock them.

Have to agree with red and most of the comments here. The full backs were an area identified for improving, we had two of the best in the PL, spent money and gone backwards. 5 minutes looking at Dossena would tell you everything, the guy has no pace, no positional sence, stands off and will conced goals. He lest too many crosses come in by not pushing up on his man. One of the worst FB I have ever seen. I have no faith in Deegan and as for aberolo, he was just a limited squad player. Aurello should not be allowed take any more free kicks. If we had a motivated JAR and a fit SF this year, I think we would have good chance of title. I am a ROI fan and Robbie is limited, he is no Daglish. The club may be too big for him, will miss a lot of chances, crazy money spent on him.
I agreee time to promote the young full backs, they cant be worse and they need experience. When Skytel is fit, we could play Aggar at left back to get us to summer. Who is the scout that recommended Dossena, should be fired. Rafa should not have to buy a player to know then after 5 minutes that he is crap. Looky to get 3 mil for him.
MB - November 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
There’s no way we would get more than 3mil for Pennant regardless of his contract. Come on… Scott Carson went for what, 3.5 million? As for Dossena, he needs to stick around for a while and prove himself. I doubt Rafa will sell him yet and i’d be a bit disappointed if he did - but then again he went to all that trouble to sign Gonzalez and sent him packing before long..
Caoimhin De Barry - November 3rd, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I believe that we currently have 50 approx paid pro’s at Liverpool, granted x amount are youngsters, that by the way never seem to get a chance and there’s indication that thats going to change. If the headline to this story was “GETTING RID OF DEADWOOD” then here are the main characters along with,
Dosenna
+
Pennant,
leading rolls should also be given to
1) Arbeloa
2) Yossi
3) Lucas
4) Keane
(what a fucking waste of money and don’t say give him a chance as he has played 16 games or so and got 2 goals and he has been playing in the Prem Leagus for how long?)
I would also of put Kuyt in the above bracket except he is at least scoring the odd goal of late but he can also be another painful one to watch.
When Torres is back pls play Torres and Babel up front together and get Keane out into the neasest car park so he can do the one thing he is really good at and point at where people can park their car.
We’d be fucked without Torres, Gerrard and Carragher.

Brendan - November 3rd, 2008 at 9:58 am ….. You said it all mate …….
kermit - November 3rd, 2008 at 6:11 pm
keane will still come good
now full backs 1 right full back i d pick anyukov the russian right back anyone watch him in the euros he was attacking like amadman i love him], failing him rafinha or seek some african right back
some of these african guys can run up and down the wing all day, josimar is too old unfortunately i wish we had signed rafael da silva he s gonna be fucking brilliant
2 left back prob bale but zhirkov the russian left back was equally as impressive if not more so than anyukov at right back
3 schweinsteiger for right midfield
4 robben for the left
and give keane a go, he s involved in lots of the goals so far
one defeat and ye are all whingeing
like ye did about kuyt but he gets a few goals confidence soars and now he loooks a totally different player
riera i m not totally convinced of yet
he has the skills but doesnt seem like a winger
always comes inside
i d love to see robben fit and playing for us
and i d love to see babel given a fair go
peebuddy - November 4th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
all you mother fu@$*rs are idiots. naming obvious players a 2yr old could spot. cop on. duh lets sign ronaldo, deco, lampard, rooney, fabregas, casillas and maybe call ourselves the chelsea devils. why not. idiots!!!!!
Caoimhin De Barry - November 4th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Well said, pissballs, that was really worth your while writing such a vivid article, I can see the point your making, clear as mustard, you’d rather sign players that no one has heard of like Bongo Bongo from the Mujahadeen FC in Kabul, now he’s a player for the future?
Can you pls fucking explain your point if you have one?
