People Sport can reveal the new Tottenham boss will be given the chance to sign Fratton Park’s top names – including Lassana Diarra, Niko Kranjcar, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and David James – before any other club.
But the agreement with his long-time friend and Pompey chairman Peter Storrie will put Redknapp on a collision course with Sir Alex Ferguson, who is determined to grab Diarra at the second attempt.
Redknapp has been promised only limited funds in January but football’s ultimate wheeler dealer will sell to boost the kitty, with Diarra and Defoe likely to cost about £12million each.
Redknapp sees Kranjcar, 24, as the perfect solution to Tottenham’s longstanding left-midfield problem and the player is a close friend of Spurs duo Luka Modric and Vedran Corluka.
United’s interest raises questions about the long-term future of Owen Hargreaves, who is battling tendonitis of the knee.
Meanwhile, James is the man Redknapp sees to replace erratic Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
Portsmouth could be persuaded to let him rejoin his former boss for £2m.
Redknapp also has his eye on Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge and an early enquiry has been made.
However, Bridge may take some budging and Manchester City have already expressed an interest, with an asking price of £7m.
Redknapp is also keen on Blackburn Rovers’ skipper and defender Ryan Nelsen but Rovers would want about £4m. (Sunday People)
Right, so there you have it! Seven players that are on Redknapp’s radar so lets look at these individually. Of the Pompey players clearly Diarra and Defoe would be the pick of the bunch with both players in the peak of their careers and both able to fit into holes already evident in the Tottenham line-up. Kranjcar too would be an adept signing but I am not sure that deal will go through. David James is a very able keeper but is not exactly a long term solution if Harry does indeed intend on replacing Gomes between the sticks. Peter Crouch doesn’t seem a player that is needed at the north London club given their lanky frontman Pavlyuchenko can do a better job than the former Liverpool man. Ryan Nelsen is an unsung hero at Blackburn and could be a realistic signing who would helpfully cover for the games that Ledley King’s knees couldn’t cope with. Wayne Bridge is also a good idea for a swoop given his lack of first team action at Chelsea but he appears to be keen on working his way back into the first team reckoning at Stamford Bridge. So Spurs fans of these seven mentioned by this source who would you like to see move to White Hart Lane?
