Does the best player in the Liverpool squad fancy a midweek return?

Have the Reds proved that they can manage without their star striker? The answer would have been ‘yes’ before Saturday evening’s match at White Hart Lane, although they had only squeaked past Portsmouth and Wigan at home without the Spaniard that makes things happen every time he sets foot on the pitch.

It appears as though Fernando Torres is nailed-on to feature against Atletico Madrid this week, with Rafael Benitez telling Sky Sports that he’s leaving the decision whether to play or not with his number nine.

When asked whether he would take any risks with Torres’ fitness, Benitez replied on Sky Sports News: “It depends at the end on the player.

“If the player is confident you can take a risk, but if the player has no confidence you have to wait.

“If he has confidence tomorrow he can be there. It’s not a question of taking a risk and it’s not a question of delaying a decision or waiting.

“If he’s ready he has to play as soon as possible.”

Many Liverpool supporters will be expecting their team to win Tuesday night’s match against the Spanish team whether Torres decides to play or not. However, El Nino missed the chance to feature against his old club a fortnight ago and is unlikely to pass up the chance to play in this game, can he make a scoring return for the Reds?
