Liverpool FAILURE heads for £6m EXIT: He just isn’t good enough for the club!
by Mr Comfort on November 3rd, 2008 30 commentsThis new signing hasn’t performed to the level Rafa expects from his title-chasing side, and this source suggests that he will be heading straight back to Serie A before long!

Liverpool Football Club are ready to offload Andrea Dossena.
The Italian international has failed to make an impression in England following his summer move to Anfield from Udinese, where he gained a reputation as one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A.
Reports in the News of the World claim Rafael Benitez is already looking to offload Dossena in January to raise funds, although the 27-year-old is eager to be given more time to adapt to the Premier League. (fansfc.com)
Having got rid of John Arne Riise, Dossena was seen as the perfect man to fill the left back role, but his form has been patchy to say the least. He consistently loses the ball and finds himself out of position far too often, so I am not surprised Benitez is looking to get rid quick of this Italian international. Maybe the best solution once Skrtel is fit, is to put Jamie C into the left back slot (a role he has managed very capably before), and then team Agger and the Slovakian giant together in the centre of defence? Do Liverpool fans think this could negate the need to keep Andreas at the club?

Sorry for my bad english..
But what the hell? Carragher as left back again?
Do you remember how seldom he went forward?
We need backs who can be attacking.
But i agree in one thing, and that`s to try Skrtel and Agger together!

Initially I thought that this guy, Dossena, was gonna be a gonna be a promising addition to the squad with the sale of the ever-own-goal scoring Riise. However it seems that this has not been the case at all. Dossena had turned out to be a massive, 9 million pound, error and with just 2 months before the transfer window opens I think Rafa will be ready to offload this fella as soon as possible considering his depreciation in value. Another disappointment has been Phillip Degen. Our beloved Stevie Finnan was sold so that fresh blood could be injected into the right-back position. This guys has been injured since he arrived, getting injured on every possible opportunity. I don’t think that I’ve seen him play 90mins. I would like to see the introduction of David N’gogg to a game maybe late on to see what impact he could make; I think rafa should have put him on instead of Benyoun on Saturday.
We need a few players in January to have any chance of being competitive; especially with the likes of Robbie Keane being exceptionally goal shy. Babel looking uncomfortable when asked to step up to the plate and fill the void left by Fernando Torres. I think that getting an out and out striker who will bag at least 25 goals a season is required. To add to this we could very well do with a an out and out right winger and new blood in the left and right-back positions. Although, i did not think much of Arbeloa he has been steady and consistent in the right-back position both defensively and getting forward. Meanwhile Fabio Aurelio, although defensively he gets caught out of position quite often and going forward lacks pace and cutting edge has performed well. If we can have him injury free for a season maybe we will see the best of him. Benyoun seems to be running out of time at Anfield; he rarely makes an impact when coming off the bench and rarely give Liverpool anything special to sing and dance about. Although he is an intelligent player and will probably benefit best by being given a free role much like hat given to him whilst he was at West Ham. Unfortunately, only Gerrard can have that role and between you and me there is no-one better.
We either need a lethal partnership to form with Keane and Torres or need to spend big in January, otherwise I can’t see us winning anything. Although we create the chances we miss the deadly goal threat, and the clinical finishing when Torres is out. We need a striker in January. If we had the money David Villa would be the number one target with Sergio Aguero a close second.

Your right levonboy.. Heinze would have been great signing, does anybody know how he is getting on for real madrid? he’s probably cup tied. Carra could go left back, not sure how the young Argentine left back is getting on. Liverpool reserves have lost 4 on the trot.
Dosena is good at crossing the ball and going forward but there has been too many crosses coming in as well!

I agree with Lee that Dossena needs a bit of time to settle.
Why push Carra out wide when he is one of the best centre halfs in the league??
Shaan - November 4th, 2008 at 4:36 am
carragher as a left back…its horrible. u cant take a players favorite position away from him. carragher is performing very well at centre back. the best thing to do would be to get in gareth bale as a better substitute.

Come back Riise…all is forgven….seriously, when was the last time an italian player had a of success in EPL???….The standard of football in the premiership is far superior to serie a, so it is inevitable that an italian player is gonna suffer…the main problem area being fitness levels….these italians are too heavy and too slow…probably cos they’ve eaten one too many pizza’s…
rafa_army - November 4th, 2008 at 8:26 am
get riise back!! if u wanna ask more,u can get philp lahm or let’s doing business with sergio ramos….! from rafa_fan malaysia
Caoimhin De Barry - November 4th, 2008 at 9:05 am
He’s just not good enough, simple as that, not if we have serious intentions of challenging for the title, but you could aslo say the same for Arbeloa. Riise was a good player but his time was up at LFC, but I agree he was still better than Dossena and we should never of got rid of Finnan, bad move as he was a steady eddie and had at least another year or two of top football in him. With regards to this setteling period, personally I think its a load of bull, after 10 games he should be playing a lot better than he is, also whatever scout looked at this lad should be sacked
Rudi - November 4th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Why not Agger at left back for a while when Skertel is fit. At least he would be getting a game.
He is fast, good on the ball, great left foot, would give extra heigth for corners etc. Look at the way he went down the line against wigan.
Has to be better than Dossena.
Leave Keane alone btw. He IS proven and will definitely start scoring goals. His overall performances have been good.
Anonymous - November 4th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
insula or agger at left back. agger is good going forward, and insula is a good young left back
Donavan Ried - November 4th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Sorry poeple some of you will not like me saying this but this is what I was on about when I say that Rafa wastes the clubs money and it is the reason the yanks do not trust his forays into the transfer market , that and the fact that he pays over the top for some players .(i.e. Keane, and Barry) … Instead of buying the Dossena’s of the world spend the money on class players…It is like buy a set of screw drivers from a poung shop … The look like they will do the job, but when you get them home the metal strat to sheer away, and you have to buy a proper set. So wasting the £1 plus bus fare
Rob - November 4th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I don’t usually post on this crappy site but I have to take issue with Donavan here.
Do you think Rafa wasted the clubs money on Agger, Skrtel, Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, Riera and Reina who are incidentally more that half of the current first team?
Robbie Keane is a proven premiership striker who’s been amongst the top goalscorers in the league for the last six or seven years.
Some transfers don’t work out but in the main he’s getting them right, stop talking rubbish.
Anonymous - November 4th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Out:
Pennant
Dossena
Benayoun
In:
Bale
Sweinsteinger
Doyle (if he keeps his form up)

Rob – November 4th, 2008 at 2:22 pm “Agger, Skrtel, Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, and Reina” ……Were , are good buys but he as also brought in some crap player, or paid over the top for some (Keane) ….Riera to decide about him. “Robbie Keane is a proven premiership striker who’s been amongst the top goalscorers in the league for the last six or seven years.” ….Remember Harry Kewell?….. Craig Bellamy?… they were all good for lesser clubs
Donavan Ried - November 4th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Sorry, saying that all the blame is Rafa’s is a bit unfair really The scouts have to take a lot of the blame are all it their job to sought the ratshit from the rice krispies ,,,,,
paul hatfield - November 5th, 2008 at 12:00 am
I have followed liverpool from the sixties when they have had some great sides which obviously have won everything there is to win at all levels, and have continually beaten every team matched against us.
I can remmember players such as emlyn hughes, tommy smith, alan kennedy ,ray kennedy ,steve highway, terry mac, craig johnson, alan hanson, mark lawrenson, dieter hamman, and possible 50 more who were all known for thier mid field and deffensive qualities, but would all end a season with 7 plus goals which would seriously help in the quest for glory. if you take out stevie gerrard its difficult to see any player outside of the forwards who would compeat with the history. The great tores who every one raves about only scores goals against the lesser teams, and adds very little to the general play.
to be a top team we have to have regular goalscorers in ALL positions just as man u, arsenal, and chelsea have. we have and I hate to say it 12 plus players who arn’t good enough for the first team squad.
Its not the players who are at fault, its the management team. RAFA HAS BOUGHT SECOND GRADE PLAYERS AND IT CONTINUES AND COST BILLONS. TIME FOR THE SPANNISH TO MOVE OUT OF LIVERPOOL
Rudi - November 5th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Paul if we aren’t a top team I don’t know what is? We are one of the best teams in Europe.
I know people say we haven’t won the league but bear in mind the qulaity of the competition. Chelsea have genuine billionaire backing and UTD have the highest turnover of any club in the world.
Donovan pointed out that Rafa has wasted some money. The point he misses is that Rafa has been forced to search for bargains at times and that will inevitably lead to some failures.
The media constantly repeats the point that Benitez has spent £200m.
There are two key points to consider;
What is his net spending?
How does this compare to the teams ahead of him?
His net spending is around £100m and this is 2 or 3 times less than the net spending of UTD and Chelsea over the same period.

why on earth does anyone want carra at left back? it’s obvious that the only player we have at the back that has any offensive creability is agger.and he is also left footed. i also think that agger if given oppurtunity and time could be a great central midfielder. his passing is excellent. and he certainly is better than alonso in going past players. he seems to have much more power and determination when going forward..good to see him getting back into the team now that skrtel is out. both skrtel and carra are good players, but in my mind agger is the one that really has the most talent..and i think his talent is of such greatness that he should play at any time. when skrtel is back we should put him on the left back to make the team as strong as possible. left back is our weakest link at the moment..

Is this a joke Rafa has spent more than utd have since he has been at liverpool. As for net spend who has he sold that has recovered anything near what he paid apart from Momo
How do people feel this summers signings are working out personally i think its a waste of over £30m

paul hatfield – November 5th, 2008 at 12:00 am ….. I can agree with most of what you have to say,But (a)Torres scored against Chelsea and they can hardly be called second rate and (b) Millions yes, Billions no …….

Rudi – November 5th, 2008 at 9:06 am ……Hi Rudi….. You know that sometimes Rafa may want two or three players, but I think sometimes he needs to say to himself “You know what F**K it, instead of taking a chance on these three for £18m I will buy one player I know can do the job for £16m ” We have a good core of players in our team Rafa should be able to buy one or two key players easy enough (Left back, Wayne Brigde?.) … N’gog Please…we don’t need these kind of buys or paying over the odds for the Barry’s and the Keane’s of this world
Rudi - November 6th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Not a rafa fan, you are making a fool of yourself.
Cisse, Risse, Bellamy, Crouch, Sissoko. That’s just a few. There are loads of smaller sales.
Do your research first you fucking prick.
