Benitez and Wenger are set to go head-to-head for this promising Spaniard; at least that is what this source suggests.
Liverpool and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Valencia defender Raul Albiol.
AS says both Premiership giants are following the 23 year-old Spain international, who still has three years on his contract at Valencia.
Valencia are aware of rival interest in Albiol and are seeking to open new contract talks with the defender. (tribalfootball.com)
Of course, Raul has links to Rafa, as he was in charge at Valencia when the youngster was beginning to get noticed in the club’s B team. This centre back has gone from strength-to-strength, and is a big part of the reason that the Mestalla outfit has one of the meanest defences in La Liga. It’s easy to see why Benitez and Arsenal are keen on the Spanish international, as he also serves as a more than adequate defensive midfielder, and some Gunners fans believe that this is one role the club desperately needs to fill. However, clearly the Spanish influence at Anfield would give the Merseyside club edge in any bidding war.
Do Liverpool fans like the look of Albiol – is he the type of adaptable player who would be a good signing?
