Portsmouth in hunt for Arsenal legend: Surely the Gunners should be after him too!

What are Arsenal lacking this season? Thomas Sorenson reckons its backbone, while some supporters would say that they are short on experience and numbers. While Arsene Wenger has performed a remarkable job in his time at the club, it appears that a heavy reliance on youth is not going to win them much this season, which is where this old flame could come in.

Patrick Vieira was a little taken aback when shown the door at Highbury, although it appears as though the Frenchman could be returning to the Premier League soon, albeit to the South Coast rather than North London. The Daily Mirror reports that Tony Adams would be keen as mustard to be reunited with the Frenchman, as he looks to make something of his managerial career at Fratton Park.

Adams said: “He is definitely a player I’d like to bring here if he was available. I will be speaking to Inter manager Jose Mourinho (below) and asking about him.

“With Patrick you know what you are getting – he is a proven winner and a great character.”

Should Arsene Wenger consider bringing back the Inter midfielder, someone who could add steel to the Gunners midfield and help them close out matches which they were winning? While Vieira may no longer be the force he was, surely both Arsenal and Portsmouth supporters would like to see him lining up for their team, with those telescopic legs still able to break up opposition play and feed strikers.
