This is not good news in my opinion, and I can only hope this source has got it horribly wrong!

Tabloid gossipers The People are sure that Middlesbrough ace Stewart Downing will be on the move sooner rather than later…
According to their reports, the disgruntled sometime England international has told boss Gareth Southgate that he’s ready to leave the Riverside and in order to seek his fortune in a more glamorous setting.

Liverpool, Everton and Aston Villa have been strongly linked with the wing wizard and now Harry Redknapp has apparently earmarked him to be his first big Tottenham signing.

The reports don’t come as a huge surprise, as the 24-year-old has looked uninspired so far this season. Compare him to Egyptian firebrand Mido, for instance, who looks like a desperate bull in the China shop that is the Riverside every time he gets a sniff of first-team action.

However, the cream of the Premier League know what he’s about and Southgate could still demand about £10 million for his services. Spurs, though, are reportedly more keen to offer Southgate some part-exchange options as they look to trim their squad in the New Year. (Goal.com)

If readers can name me a more overrated player in the Premier League, then please do so, because I am convinced that Stewart Downing is nothing more than an average winger. I am certain that Redknapp won’t make a move for the Boro man, as just about every season the England international is linked with a move away from the Riverside, but ends up going nowhere and that could be down to two reasons. 1) He isn’t as good as people make him out to be or 2) Steve Gibson and Gareth Southgate won’t entertain the notion of letting him leave. I think it could be a combination of the two.

Do Tottenham fans want to see the left-sided player at the club?
