Yes it’s true Arsene probably has a squad that lacks experience, but that’s no reason to miss out on this gifted young Barcelona midfielder!
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been alerted to the frustration of the young Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is losing patience with the Catalan sides derisory offer of a contract extension.
Busquets is only 20 but has been keeping Yaya Toure out of the first team with his brilliant performances, and as his contract runs out next summer Barcelona have to come to an agreement quickly or lose him in January.
Arsenal have been in contact with Busquets agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, to inform him of their interest, as he is in charge of the negotiations with the Barcelona heirarchy.
Orobitg has already rejected one offer from Barca’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain as “insufficient”, and he is waiting to see if they are prepared to keep the Spanish U21 international.
Busquets told reporters: ‘I’m focused on playing football and hopefully it will be sorted pretty soon.’ (footylatest.com)
Busquets would help fill that midfield hole left by Gilberto and, to a larger extent, Mathieu “I chase the money” Flamini. Whilst the Barca man is fairly inexperienced, he has shown enough talent this season to show that he would be a great investment, especially if his club don’t decide to improve his current contract. Would he be a better buy than his Camp Nou teammate Yaya Toure? Well in the short term, probably not, but over time he would surely prove to be a good signing. Do Arsenal fans think this is a player the club should fight for?
