Newcastle defender in the clear after Aston Villa striker refuses to file complaint: Will he still feel the FA’s wrath?
by offsidetrap on November 5th, 2008Joey Barton can return to thinking about football for the time being after Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor refused to file a formal complaint with the league for the Newcastle midfielder’s antics during Monday’s match. While Villa was kind to Newcastle, will the FA play nice as well?
Sportsmail Online understands that Agbonlahor has told Villa manager Martin O’Neill that he does not want to take the issue to Football Association disciplinary chiefs.
But despite the England Under-21 star’s unwillingness to press the issue, the FA are awaiting observations from the player and Aston Villa before deciding if Barton should be charged.
The West Midlands club were contacted by the FA this morning and have a week to provide their account of events. (Daily Mail)
Honestly, if the player doesn’t see anything wrong with the incident, then I don’t see why the FA is sticking their nose in as well. The situation seems like an open and shut case from the looks of it.

Extremely interesting to read (elsewhere) that Barton is now considering his legal options regarding the “racist” accusations and allegations reported by so many ravenous newspapers and websites since the molehill became a mountain. Wonder how many editors. reporters and bloggers might end up regretting their haste and inaccuracy. Talking about accuracy, for instance, your headline describes Barton as a defender. Another nail in the coffin of your credibility.
