Manchester United team get a lift ahead of Arsenal match

And no, it’s not the news that the Gunners are going to field a bunch of semi-fit players against them on Saturday! Instead, one of the best footballers of all time has visited the champions ahead of their crunch match at the Emirates.

The Guardian reports that Diego Maradona has been visiting the Manchester United players, posing for pictures and shaking their hands. According to Rio Ferdinand, the squad have been raising their game in front of the watching Argentine, who has recently become manager of the national team.

“We were like schoolkids really, around a star coming to school,” England defender Ferdinand told reporters.

“He came and watched us train and I think the gaffer would probably like him to come every day the way he raised standards in the training. Everyone was trying to impress him.

“I hope he will go back to Argentina and say he’s seen a great player — Rio Ferdinand!”

Yeah right Rio, I bet he really does go back and tell everyone about your greatness when the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez were strutting their stuff. Many of us grew up admiring Maradona, especially after his performances for Argentina in the 1986 World Cup. Let’s just hope none of the Manchester United players perform a ‘Hand of God’ celebration if they score against the Gunners.
