This source, and again I stress not me, suggests that Arsene Wenger is ready to spend big on two top quality French stars!
The French media today has been speculating that Arsene Wenger the Arsenal manager is about to splash the cash on two young footballers currently plying their trade in the French first division.
According to reports Wenger has cemented his interest in Hatem Ben Arfa the 21 year old Marseille forward who can play either on the left wing or as a striker and Blaise Matuidi the 21 year old St Etienne midfielder who readers of footylatest will know we have reported on before.
It would cost Wenger in the region of £30 million to get both players but this should not be an issue for Wenger as Arsenal clearly have the money.
Hatem Ben Arfa came through the acclaimed youth system at Lyon and has been with Marseille for only five months since signing for the South France team from Lyon and it is surprising that Arsenal are being linked with a player that they essentially showed no interest in signing last summer and would now cost a premium.
Blaise Matuidi is another matter, he has been followed by Arsenal or a while now and bid for this player would not be a surprise. (footylatest.com)
Wenger has of course trailed Ben Arfa previously, and the Lyon man only moved to Marseille in July. I would therefore be surprised if the French club would be keen on losing him, especially as he has been key in their impressive start to the season and is in fact the club’s joint-top scorer. Matuidi may be a far more likely capture with the 21-year-old deemed a pretty good bet to be joining the north London side as early as January, mainly because his Saint Etienne have begun the season so disastrously. Do Gunners fans think that either deal will come to pass?
